I am expecting either Grier or Harris to redshirt this year. Am I wrong in my assumption?
I think both will play this year... but one will RS next year (assuming Jeff stays healthy).
Driskel is a senior...correct?
makes no sense to redshirt grier or harris next year if they both play this year. You lose one starter and Morning. isnt a reliable backup, so you're saying you would prefer to have a true freshman in Jones backup Grier/Harris while one of those two redshirt?
If they both play this year, its a safe bet that they will both play MORE next year. That's if the loser of the starting job competition doesnt transfer
Driskel has another year after this one.
Driskel is a RS Jr. Unless he blows up ths year, he'll be back next year. Makes sense to RS one of them if we can.
i wasnt sure
calls him a senior
ESPN says junior
I always assumed he was a junior but ive seen other writers call him a senior too. LOL
Yea in this case I agree. I'd prefer Grier RS, I think Harris is better built for this offense right now (Ill get killed by people for that im sure) and I think Grier REALLY needs to gain a solid 10-15 pounds minimum before next season, hes straw man skinny
Mornin this year
Next year Driskel
Harris and Grier
Jones is RS
I tend to agree with Andy Hutchins about the concerns of one of the two transferring (my bet would be Harris if Grier wins the backup job since Grier seems like a UF lifer regardless of what happens in his career here) after this season
Grier is a giant next to Harris. But I agree, I think Harris is more different and offers a better curve ball this year.
Roper is not looking for a curve ball, change up, whatever. He did that at Duke because his starter could not even out run his offensive linemen and the #1 backup was an excellent runner. Every one of our QBs runs well enough for designed running plays. The top three guys are all 4.6 or better. (Grier runs the 20 yard shuttle 3.9.) What Roper wants from his #2 guy is the ability to walk out on the field when Driskel gets carried off and lead the team.
I really have no idea how this is going to go (i.e.,which player gets named #2), but I think both kids are coaches' sons and I hope that gives them some perspective and maturity about the decision.
It feels like the coaching staff wants to redshirt Grier, regardless of who the 2nd best QB is.
IDK about that.
Do you not believe that Harris could be performing better?
That is what was reported fom people watching the last few open practices.
And I heard otherwise.
If Harris is in fact performing better, then I'm ok with him getting the backup spot.
Comments from the coaching staff lead me to believe they want as much separation between Grier and Driskel as possible.
I haven't seen those comments, but some separation between Harris and Grier makes sense, if we can.
The only thing I don’t want to see happen with Grier and Harris is the same catastophic event that took place with JD and Brissett. The team became divided with that QB battle IMO as did Gator Nation.
If Jeff has a very good year, he's gone imo.
The coaches have not given a single hint about who will be the backup and have not indicated that anyone will redshirt. Separation would be great, but it will depend on the #2 to play consistently whenever he comes in and for both #1 and #2 to stay healthy. There's also the possibility that the #3 guy ends up progressing through the season until he's more reliable than the soon to be anointed #2 QB.
To the CFL?
Yeah....to a baseball career.
certainly not to the nfl
