Stating the obvious, but it becomes so apparent when you look at this upcoming recruiting cycle why this next year is critical. As has been stated here, there is an insane amount of instate talent next year. There really is no excuse to not get our fair share (esp at pipeline schools).

Have a good year, even 8-4/9-3ish? Add some excitement to the program? And I think it'll be enough to keep 'em coming. With another subpar year on the field, we are going to get buried in the arms race. Early look at the 247 top 100...

#1) Kevin Toliver - ***** LSU commit. We will work him all year long.
    #7) George Campbell - *****
    #14) CeCe Jefferson - *****
    #26) Jeffery Holland - *****
    #29) Torrance Gibson - *****
    #38) Byron Cowart - ****

We are considered favorites for most of these young men. Even if Toliver isn't flipped, if we take care of business and keep the others, you are already looking at a top 5 class and big time momentum moving forward. GO GET EM CHAMP!

Are you trying to ease your pain after another ho-hum recruiting class on the Offensive side of the ball?

You can go ahead and scratch off your list any of those top recruits that play offense.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Depends what kind of impact Roper can make this year IMO.

Also forgot Martez Ivey #8 overall, *****

Crusher, if we can show improvement (which is why Roper is actually the most important recruit of the offseason), then they will start coming. Some of these players just need to be shown a glimpse that the program is redirected and on the upswing. We wouldn't have lost Cook and Lane, but oh well. Campbell comes across as that type for next year. I think we will do fine. Fortunately, most of the stars are on the defensive side anyway lol

The theme is a little dramatic. We are UF, we aren't at a crossroads. We are the train station. It may look like a dump every now and then but we will clean it up and no matter what, everything goes through us.

We are the flagship university in the best football conference. We'll be fine.

    Gatorchamps,

You keep telling yourself that. Another year like this, and the wheels fall off, and all these guys who basically grew up Gator fans will go elsewhere. We can't afford that. There is so much elite talent in our go-to-areas next year. And its basically being gift-wrapped for us, so long as we don't screw it up on the field.

I won't tell myself anything. I prefer to look at things as they are, you know, the whole picture. What I see are teams like FSU and Auburn making the Championship with 1 player or 1 coaching change. Thats reality. We are the flagship University in Florida and we are in the SEC, where all the kids want to play. We went 4-8 and pulled a really nice class, that alone makes your theory void right away.

There's so much high quality competition in the SEC that if you fall off The Mountaintop it's very hard to climb back up. That happened at Tennessee, and they've never recovered. It happened at Georgia after Dooley left, and though they've had some good years they've never recovered, either. IMO UF has one more season to turn it around. But if the Gators don't at least win the East by the 2015 season then most likely it'll be years (and another coach or two) before we're seen as anything other than a middle of the pack program by top recruits. (Note that, as good as it is, this year's class is about #5 in the SEC.) The recruits of 2016 were seven or eight years old the last time the Gators won a trophy; what today's seven and eight year olds know about UF isn't the "work'em silly" glory years, it's the mediocre, gory years.

Our football program is 30-21 in the last 4 years combined...

Its this type of mentality that lead Tennessee to where they are, Michigan where they are, Nebraska, etc. You don't just stay awesome because you think you're awesome.

Pop quiz what do those teams have in common? They dont reside in the best state (states) of talent in the country. You can cherry pick your stats all you want, but in the last 25 years, you're hard pressed to find a better school outside of Bama. We are at the point where we will only have a few years here and there where we aren't good because the expectations here are sky high. Believe it or not, its your choice.

I can see us pulling in the best class in the nation... with a great season next year... All we have to do is win 9 or more games and we could get many of the guys that we just hosted on Junior/s day last week.

We are not the flagship University of Florida as far as I am concerned right now. FSU, better recruiting class, better coach, defending National Champs, tons of positive momentum. Not sure how you can't see that. To your point about us pulling in a really nice class.... yes, it was a very good class, above average for most. Most of the studs are on defense, we need to start getting a couple offensive studs.

Now as of right now I don't blame any recruit for not wanting to come here and play offense. This is a big year, recruits need to see improvement, they need to see that UF is putting them in a position to make it to the NFL, that is not currently the case right now in case you have been out of the loop lately. Its awesome that we took those guys from FSU, but don't get it twisted, FSU would trade us Treon, Worton, and Sousa for Lane and Cook any day!! UF can not sit around and hope people want to come here because we think we are awesome. Do you know who is awesome? Whoever wins! I love the point that someone made saying that Roper is our most important recruit this year. If he can piece things together and we show improvement it will go a long way in recruiting! Take your Orange and Blue goggles off and taste the reality!

My bad, didn't care enough, thanks; getting smarter everyday! however, do you get the point of the post? we can't have more average to below average years and expect everything to just be fine and dandy. FSU is dominating this state and it makes me sick to my stomach. We need to rope in the big time offensive studs that we used to be able to get, not just from the state of Florida but nationwide.
