That, and just about everything else the coaches here have done.
I will say the penalties are tough but we didn't have one the whole first half. some of the Easley false starts are due to the center doing an illegal act.
What a little tiny post
Fantastic post. I thought Toledo really, really wanted to bait us into trying for those big defensive sacks and then kill us on the underneath stuff. I thought we played EXTREMELY disciplined football on the D line and the LB'ers.
I was *very* pleased with this win, on offense and defense. The FG kicker? We'll just have to see how that plays out
Thought we played a very sound first game except for the penalties. We did everything we had to do to not have the game in doubt at any time.
Should we look for the Rabbit package in passing situations against UM? Don't know if they utilize the hurry up to limit our ability to substitute. I look for our defensive depth to be the difference by the second half.
I would add a question #8. 3rd down conversions.
Watching the replay recently, a stat came up late that said we were only 4 of 10 on 3rd downs.
That's always been a sore spot for us.
I'm sure punting was just an off day as we've seen what Christy can do over a full season but kicking worries me greatly, with our style of offense great kicking is necessary we eat up so much clock that a wasted drive is devastating.
Was pleasantly suprised at how well we played overall. There was a big difference between 12 and 13 in regards to overall execution. I thought the OL played very well and was happy to see Silberman get so many snaps. This will only help when we get some Jon back.
Tackling was better, mistakes were minimal and never led to anything significant.
If its true that you make the biggest strides between games one and two, then I really like our chances against scUM. We are in a better place after game one than last year, that's for certain.
The ignore function on this site should be expanded so that quotes don't appear either.
it will be night and day, i seriously think everyone is missing the bus on our defense this year. we have a 5 star player sitting in every level. and with easley back in his natural position, we will be able to pressure with 4 and drop 7. i see complete domination with our lines
I am sure I posted it here on one of the threads, but my general expectation for the offense this year is that it will be a better version of last year's: better to start the game, fewer penalties, fewer sacks, greater third down success rate, greater TD% in the red zone, improved to time of possession, etc. We were solid last year in terms of our run basic run game, our completion percentage, and our turnover rates, but we were not generally efficient outside of that and the style we play requires more efficiency.
What I saw was a grand improvement in most of those areas Saturday over a year ago. The first half was as good a half of football as we played all last season. The late penalties really hurt us and the third down conversions were unexceptional, but otherwise we were solid. The offense stands to change dramatically as the playmakers in the 2013 and 2014 classes start contributing, but it won't be this season.
God forbid you actually learn something.
Ill pay someone a dollar to quote this post. Thanks.
Pay up, *****.
As usual, your half assed, dishonest self couldn't even quote properly...
Sorry but I don't follow this. We were talking about kickoffs, not punts.
I watched a good bit of the Broncos-Ravens game last night. Every kickoff I saw went well into the end zone. Again - if you have a kicker who can get it well into the end zone that's what you do. It makes no sense to deliberately kick it to the 5 or 10 yard line if you can kick it into the end zone and eliminate the chance of a long return.
Nice. Hey, not all us can have a sixth-grade education like you.
our kicking game is the biggest concern for me. i think hardin was in the under armour all american game or the army all American game. i remember him missing a very easy field goal. and he missed it very badly. that did not instill a whole lot of confidence. hopefully, his problems are only mental and this coaching staff will toughen him up from that perspective.
I was hoping to read a response to this question. Will Jacobs be playing tomorrow?
