make the minimum wage $25 per hour. then take all un-employed and under employed people and put them on Fed Govt payroll in some union job.

then we have everybody above poverty level and have virtually 100% employment.

have Fed set interest rates at 0.01%.

then 0bama can run for a third term !

This might be hard for some conservatives to reconcile since it undercuts a major orthodoxy for them, but I'd urge you to at least read what some on the right are actually saying about minimum wage raising. I would also suggest to you and to others to read Unz's article in The American Conservative.

Labor is not worth whatever some government fiat says it is worth, is the problem -- it's only worth what an employer can pay for it to an a) willing, b) qualified/competent/effective employee, that c) yields them a profit-making result in the marketplace. That isn't going to just be $10 or $12 or $15 because it feels good to set it there, and it will costs hundreds of thousands of people their jobs altogether, dropping their "living wage" to whatever they get for going to stand in the dole queue.

Not to mention the people that just... won't be hired for jobs at all anymore. Under 18 and wanting an after school or summer job? Forget it. Employees who can only work certain hours anyway, who can only perform certain tasks anyway, can't do the "whole job" anyway? They weren't worth the $7.67, they damn sure won't be worth double it.

No coincidence that while this talk comes up, you have people in muttering in Detroit and other failed leftist fiefdoms that it's racist to require a HS diploma or GED -- because for that much money, you want to at least have *some* assurance that your cashier isn't completely ignorant of math and language and reading, right? So for $12/hr, you are more likely to require a two year degree for a job you previous took a diploma for, at least until some leftist crank sues you over it.

It's a shame you didn't say anything about that fact from 2001-2009. It might have been preventable.

Problem with this thinking is that it absolves each successive executive of having any independent moral obligation to not be that way.
