    Just a question for Obama supporters here. If open air monuments and other National parks that require no workers to operate can be open in previous shutdowns, why has the Obama admin felt like it was necessary to close them all down during this shutdown?

    Please don't give me the mass email answer you got earlier last week. I don't want to hear that shutting down the government means you have to spend more money to shut down free to operate parks/monuments.

    Not to mention how they got all those signs in 8-10 hours. This has been in the playbook for a while....long enough to plan for it.

    The parts that require staff to operate it were closed, my OP is asking about "open air" monuments and parks that were not closed during 95. Open air monuments do not require ANY paid staff to operate.

    I wonder if it costs more to run a monument that requires no money to operate as opposed to sending government officials to guard/barricade it. Maybe those good hearted government workers are just volunteering their time?

    The sign reads that the "visitor services" had been shut down (I.e. Gift shops) and not the parks themselves...

    The park was closed. The difference is not closed/open, but that there are barricades this time.

    Were visitors allowed to visit the open air portion of the Lincoln Memorial or not?

    Furthermore, what is the purpose of posting a sign telling its visitors that the parks are closed within the very park that is supposedly closed to visitors?

    BTW, I don't blame Obama for barricading the National Parks... Think of all those ex-OWS punks out there just looking for something to break, paint or crap on?

    There's a huge difference between "closed" and 'barricaded.' Obama is wasting more money barricading things he doesn't need to barricade.
