A nuts and bolts look at the Gators' road trip to Oxford
Florida has won a season-best six straight, including its first four Southeastern Conference games, and sits alone atop the league standings with a half-game advantage on Auburn. The Gators defeated Mississippi State 71-54 at home Wednesday night and now get the other half of the Magnolia State, but on the always-difficult SEC road, where they won a pair last week at Texas A&M and Missouri. ... Ole Miss is coming off an 85-70 loss at Auburn, a game the Rebels led by 10 at halftime, only to be dominated for the second 20 minutes. They're one of seven teams jumbled in the middle of the SEC standings with either a 2-1, 2-2 or 1-2 record. ... UF leads the all-time series 65-45. The Gators are just 23-29 at Oxford, but with wins in four of the last five trips. ... UF is 1-0 at Mississippi under Coach Mike White, the Ole Miss alum and former point guard, who took his first Florida team there two years ago and won 80-71. ...

    STUFF (Need-to-Know Info)
ABOUT THE GATORS: White says any emotional jolt he'll get from returning to the place where he played for four seasons in the '90s likely was tapped out in that first trip back two years ago. ... UF is coming off one of its best all-around defensive performances of the season in holding Mississippi State to just 54 points, the fewest by a Florida opponent this season. ... The Gators lead the SEC in turnover margin (plus-5.1), steals per game (7.6) and 3-pointers per game (9.6), rank second in free-throw percentage (.767) and assist-to-turnover ratio (plus-1.4), and sit third in scoring offense (82.2 per game) and 3-point field-goal percentage (.393). They rank dead-last in the league in field-goal percentage defense (.440) and 3-point percentage defense (.377), but those numbers have actually improved of late. ... Swingman Jalen Hudson leads the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game, and has done so coming off the bench four of the previous six games.
