This is pretty bad. First, the school claims 2 consensus national champions. However, for their 1942 championship, they claim:

Only problem with that is that none of those are "polls" so I'm not sure how individual ranking systems would constitute a consensus. This isn't to say Georgia wasn't better than Ohio State in 1942 (were people not clamoring for a playoff system back then?); only that Georgia likely didn't celebrate in 1942 as if they had won the national championship. As a side note, the Rose Bowl could not take Ohio State because the Big Ten/Western Conference their formal tie-in did not start until 1946 and Western Conference teams were not allowed to participate in bowl games (Ohio State played in none between 1921 and 1949).

I give them a Full 5-star Bama rating on their claim to the 1942 national championship. Even Bama is impressed with the declaration of it as being a "consensus" championship.

    Now, their 1927 title:

Yeah, that's great and all, but Boand and Poling were retroactive selectors in the 20's. That means nobody had any idea that Boand and Poling thought Georgia owned some sort of claim to the title until a few years later.

For that reason, I give them a 5-star Bama rating on their claim to the 1927 National Championship. That said, and in Georgia's defense, they did beat Yale at Yale (who conveniently played 7 of their 8 games at home that year), but they didn't win the national championship that year.

1946, One selector had them at the #1 spot (Williamson, again, not a poll). Georgia finished undefeated that year; Notre Dame was the widely recognized champion that year (only gave up 24 points all year). This claim gets a 4-star Bama rating. Partial credit due to the rating system not being retroactive.

1968, One selector had them at the #1 spot (Litkenhous, again, not a poll). This one gets a full 5-star Bama rating because 1968 was the first year the AP started naming champions after the bowl games. Georgia lost the Sugar Bowl 16-2 to Arkansas; if any Bulldog can post their claim that they were there and witnessed a national championship celebration, I'll consider reducing the Bama rating for this claim to a championship.

I hope this clears things up.

That said, 1980, they have it, they own it, they earned it fair and square. 1980, over 32 years ago, they celebrated a national championship for the first time.

"The Georgia Bulldogs have won the Sugar Bowl and their First National Championship!"

~26:35 mark in the video (The Devil Went Down to Georgia re-make for the Sugar Bowl was kind of funny)
