So it begins.
Well TampaJack, I may well be wrong, but the Gators were playing Georgetown last year essentially with 5 players and held the lead after a half. Ogbueze had 1 minute in the first half, and Frazier 2.
I seriously doubt if North Florida has anyone on their team who can handle Young, Prather or Hill, and both D. Walker and Graham would surely be starters for them, and likely leading scorers, with both Kurtz and Billy Jr playing regularly. Carter is also almost surely going to be seeing at least 5-10 minutes in the game.
Like I said, I don't think this is very likely, although, in basketball, almost anything can happen.
Billy D mentioned having a roster of 8 including two walk ons
that means 5 guys won't be available, the 3 suspensions, Frazier and who else?
Graham or Will must be the 5th
You either know much, much more about unf and college basketball than I suspect. Or much, much less.
I don't know which.
I don't know a whole lot about UNF, but they have a few guys who likely would start for us tomorrow, including Chris Davenport who was highly rated at Montverde a few years ago. They lost by one point last season in a game against Florida Gulf Coast. They might be better this season because they have brought in a good recruiting class and they bring back a bunch of players. Billy Donovan says that we are not very good right now. I think we can believe that. We might only have 5 healthy players for this game, of which only 2 have gotten significant playing time for the Gators. We will have at the most 2 guys who can shoot from the perimeter in Hill and Walker, and we don't know how well they can shoot. We will possibly have to start a guy who used to be a team manager along with a guy who until a few days ago was headed for a red shirt. We play at home, but the game is at 3 PM on Friday, so hardly anyone will be in attendance. Now whether or not I know a lot about college basketball, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this could be a tough game.
The article just posted by Franz Beard detailing all the players being unavailable mentioned that Finney Smith and Harris would "likely" only be out 2 games...including the exhibition...meaning they will return for Wisconsin...so if we can somehow find a way to "get past" UNF next week, we should slowly start returning to normal....I just hope we are all systems go before the December gauntlet...
My guess is that Yeguete is not going to go until the opener and UF's "depth" chart for the exhibition is:
Guard/Wing: Hill, Graham, Carter, Donovan Jr., Kurtz
Post: Young, Prather, D.Walker
but it could be Graham or Carter too who is not ready.
In following Gator hoops since the late 1970s, I've never seen us with so few players available.
Nevertheless, it's only temporary and this remains a team with Final Four potential. Silver lining, the guys with little game experience will get a lot in the next couple of weeks.
Potentially it might only be six guys should Graham and Carter both not be ready.
Didn't Donovan also have off season surgery?
Is Patric ready to play 35 minutes after his surgery?
Sounds like the only truly healthy guys may be Hill, Kurtz (who may also play in the post), Prather and Walker
Donovan has a torn labrum or rotator cuff, but has not had surgery.
Our string of consecutive games with 3 point baskets made could come to an end with that lineup.
Or two point baskets.
Two minutes in and the streak continues
Billy could go all Muschamp about the Prather rumors and be perfectly justified. I'm extremely pleased that Casey wasn't suspended as he's been great Gator for three plus years now and really hope he has a huge senior season

Fair enough. But the flip side of the coin is that team manager would likely start for unf and several other players uf will put on the floor would --- from a talent perspective--- represent something greater than an all time, all star unf roster.
I doubt that Jake would start for North Florida or, for that matter, Florida Southern. My point was and still is that this could be a tough game. I am glad to see that Yeguete and Carter will play. That looked somewhat doubtful a few day ago.
There is some solid talent on th UNF Team. Marcel White-Lake Wales-State Champions/MVP in the Championship game, a kid from Miami who played for the 8A State Champions (can't recall his name)-plays the pt. grd position, Dallas Moore (played for the Fla Rams) who can shoot 3's like no other, Chris Davenport-Montverde/Fla Rams Alum, Aaron B. from Hagarty High-solid SG.
Plus they are well coached. Will be a good test for the Gators-no patsy or pushover.
Gators still banged up, very gimpy starting the season. Will be in much better shape in about 10 more days.
That is fine . . . I am not meaning to argue your opinion. But I think, even with injuries and a depleted roster, we should win handily. I think the talent disparity offsets any reasonable explanation for losing such a game. So, i would be surprised. . . very surprised. . . if we lost.
I hope that you are correct.
