    I must be thinking of 2007, then; when he told Billy NOT to take the Magic job.

    EDIT: Doesn't sound like Pitino advised against the UF job, considering he got him the job in the 1st place.

    "It seems strange in some ways because Donovan has always been looked at as a sorcerer’s apprentice to Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino of Louisville, who coached him at Providence, gave him his first break in coaching at Kentucky, got him the Florida job and is still coaching today."

    Maybe it was one of those things where Pitino didn't initially like the idea; but eventually gave Donovan his blessing and a positive recommendation to Foley.

    I always laughed at that, yeah UF wasn't a great gig at the time but he was coaching at freaking marshall, how was it not at least a step up?

    I believe Pitino called it a no- where job....little did he know!

    He also recommended Tubby over Billy when he left...........ugh
