Yes this is from a liberal polling organization, but even if it's off by 10% it's still pretty stunning.

It isn't in this article, but in the poll they also found that 24% of pubs in GA also opposed interracial marriage.

I would bet that you would get a similar number if you polled African Americans WRT interracial marriage too.

As far as MLK is concerned, the numbers could be attributed to the recency of the story. MLK has been out of the news for decades now. Paula Deen? Not so much.

This poll seems to have received the desired effects its creators desired when they started it. Doesn't really mean anything, really.

If I wanted to make any demographic look bad, I could come up with a poll that would do it. Just a matter of using the right questions.

Southerners don't pay as much attention to some off the wall remarks as libs do. To a lib words are everything, to a southerner actions speak louder than words. A mistake in choice of words is readily more excused than a deliberate mistake in actions. Just the opposite of a libs values. A lib can commit a vile action and say they are sorry and all is forgiven, but anyone else say something wrong--different story.

This proves that figures don't lie but liars figure. Don's any of you libs wonder why they would even take such a poll? How many of those polled were even alive during the 60's? Don't you think Paula may have gotten a little sympathy from her recent mistreatment from the media?

As for interracial marriage, people have various reasons for being for and against it. I don't see Asians perceived as racist and they have the lowest % of interracial marriage.

so you figure a lot of Georgia Republicans aren't really clear who MLK was?

That'd be true if that's what the poll focused on, just Deen and King. But there were dozens of questions and lots of crosstabs.
Even if that were what the poll was trying to single out, Georgia Republicans certainly obliged.

Again Junior, how many who took the poll lived in the 60's? The data is unreliable and you know it.

just be clear: you figure that if you were alive in the '60s, you can't be expected to know who MLK is? And that's why 25 percent of GOPers have an unfavorable view of him?

So some liberal rag sponsored a poll designed to inflame tensions / feelings / vibe between the races ?

My gosh, why would they do such a thing ?

Certainly I have a concept of Hitler and WW2 but I didn't live through it. You don't think those who did have a different perspective. By the way-lots of people dems and pubs who lived in the 60's didn't have a high opinion of MLK because he presented himself as a Reverend and was a known womanizer. Many view that as unfavorable.

Your smart-why do you wish to support something obviously designed to continue the racial divide? hmmmm

actually only 4 percent of Georgia Democrats do, according to the poll

Besides, younger people were far more favorable toward MLK than older.

So your saying the democrats don't care if their husband sleeps around?
Democrats had no problem with JFK or Bill Clinton either-what's your point? And again Ms. River why support a poll designed to inflame the races, do the Democrats desire that?

That was my first reaction. I'm not a Paula Deen fan, but there was no good reason to do a poll like this.

Again, many questions, many crosstabs. Deen/MLK was hardly the focus of the poll. But someone obviously looked thru the whole thing and found one result that made Republicans look bad.
