Yeah, let's get someone hired pronto. Doesn't matter who it is, just get it done.

Let's not forget that lame duck coaches coach bowl games all the time. Even head coaches.

In the case of Helton, who is simply being an interim with no chance of landing the gig, I see no reason he can't coach some Christmas day bowl with his team knowing he has a new job. Hell, they already know he won't be at USC next year.

The issue w/ Helton coaching USCw at a bowl is:

    - time away from recruiting for UF - an issue for UF having to wait
    - Helton wanting to audition for a HC gig - a "bird in the hand" type issue for Helton

I get it. It's a message board so it's easy to twist things but you know I said nothing of the sort. Maybe you need another outlet to channel your vitriol?

I don't and do understand why UF fans get so butthurt over what Lane said while coach at UT. I don't like the prick either and think he rode his dad's name into the jobs he got. However, what do you expect the HC at UT to say when getting the job? "Oh, we should be competitive except when we got the Swamp, where we will just our get our ass kicked by 30 points because our program sucks!!"

Come on man!! And who here would use their dad's connections to get a better job? Granted I don't think he is quite ready for prime time, but he does seem to have a knack for calling plays. That said, I think there are better fits for UF out there.

It is not vitriol. And I didn't twist what you said at all.

Whether it takes two weeks or until after the bowl season, we need to make the right hire this time. Yes, we may lose recruits, but that pales in comparison to bringing in another terrible OC.

    Bear with me, guys...

I may have missed the announcement. Is Pease out officially or are we speculating under the assumption that he is definitely gone?

The two week timeframe would also likely fit Major Applewhite, given that Texas still has to play Baylor this weekend in order to complete their regular season...

That said, I kind of hope Dooley is just speculating on the "no way it's Kiffin." While I'm no fan of him as a person, I think he would be a pretty good fit at OC and a decent - with the potential to be quite good - hire.

2 weeks away could mean Applewhite. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mack Brown and Co replaced.

When is the Army-Navy game? Maybe it's someone from Army or Navy. Don't they both run the triple option? Wouldn't that be cool?

I doubt Dooley is using a source to say that it won't be Kiffin. Too much work. He's right most of the time, but misses a few proclamations. A week or two before the 2012 season, he announced that Brissett had won the QB job. Obviously, that wasn't what the coaches were thinking.

Dude, he's an unethical recruiter. I have no idea how he convinces good players to come get substandard coaching, and I don't care. Because there's no way it's above board. I just received an email from 247 Sports that suggests there is mutual interest between Muschamp and Kiffin. If Muschamp pulls the trigger on this guy, it is entirely consistent with my theory that he (Muschamp) is contemptuous of the entire fan base, which universally reviles Lane Kiffin. If like the conspiracy theorists think, Muschamp's mission in life is to burn down this program and piss on the ashes, then this hire would wholly support that maneuver. You might get to add NCAA sanctions to the humiliation of a losing season.

Pat Dooley has as much insider info as I have pots of gold. Take it with a grain of salt. This is the guy who declared "so begins the Jacoby Brissett era" when Jeff Driskel's shoulder was allegedly incinerated by a fluke volcanic eruption in Gainesville before last season started.

Only two weeks to score, it's going to be a close one. But all kidding aside, don't care how long it takes as this has to be the right choice. Rather wait than hurry into a mistake.

Muschamp would be nuts to take Kiffin for the reasons you state, as well as the fact he can't be trusted. The dude is a compulsive liar. Coming here, he'd have an opportunity to angle for the HBC job in the most talent rich state in the country... all he'd have to do is build enough dissent in the locker room to cause a couple of bad losses and then sell himself as the guy to fix things.

Champ would be cementing his own demise on multiple levels if he made that move. IMO.

Im not impressed by Applewhite at all. Hiring Applewhite means Muschamp is gone next season. He's not the answer...
