A girl working in a grocery store I used to shop at was named Urethra.

Can't believe someone would do that to a kid. Although mom probably had no idea what the word meant.

Like in...Urethra with me or against me.

Anyway, judge would seemingly have not authority to demand the child;s name be changed from Messiah. I agree it's not smart on the part of the parents, but that's not his decision to make.

I go thru recruiting lists every year and have found some names that guaranteed mockery for the recruit

    two most outstanding

one of the top HS RB's a number of years ago in Texas by the name of Ben Gay

a RB in Miami a few years ago by the name of James T Kirk

then, of course, there was the rash of Arab folk years back naming their kid Scud

One of the more tragic examples of bestowing a name on a child was a case I remember about some years back. A man with the first name of Malice died from being shot by the police after committing a crime. He had a long history as a criminal prior to his death.

When I was a child I remember the daughter of a neighbor having a baby that she brought to her mother's house for visits occasionally. The baby boy's name was Craven. As a kid I noted it was an unusual name but it wasn't until years later I learned the word means 'coward.' Seriously, who names their kid coward? I can't believe she knew what it meant. It might possibly have been a family name she drew on as in Wes Craven.

I'd hate to have a last name like 'Roach' or 'Rape' or something equally repellant.

Thanks, Oak. I see now that you weren't. I was playing off LD's response to your post asking if you meant Franklin.

And if stupid parents want to name their kid Lucifer? Don't you think that kid will have an uphill battle in school? Should the kid suffer all his/her life for the parents' ignorance?

Some parents should have no right to procreate, but they still do... we should at least prevent them from naming their kid a name that will do more harm to he/she while growing up.

I side with the judge on this one.

Mat King. He was a New York state high school wrestling champ back in the 80s.

Tend to agree with your thoughts re Jesus, Judge, Prince etc. However there are many judges, princes and even Jesus'. He was (Jesus of Nazareth).

But there is only one Messiah (if you don't count Obama)
