Not to jinx us but this thread has almost gone one full page without someone posting the inevitable "our staff must go" post. Did someone find a positive Thread cloak that keeps these productive threads hidden from you know who? Now please carry on :)

How can you be in danger of over signing if you sign 25 but only 20 show up, then 5 more gone within a season? Happens often. It's not how many you sign, but how many you retain. We have been under signing then losing players. Meyer's last class(?) is a great example.

I wouldn't mind over signing if the cruits knew what that means.

    Only the best stay

imo the recruits have got to know this is happening because almost every school now does it. There were some negative comments/articles in newspapers a couple of years ago (everyone remembers Bama, but I also remember USCe getting some bad press), but now I guess this is accepted by recruits.

I have to agree and it's time to join the ranks of oversigning. It's such a common practice now that it's become a universally known "buyer beware" type of situation.

If a person walks onto a car lot and pays the sticker price, do you blame the dealer?

I don't know much about this, but it's interesting that the only four AAU schools in the SEC bring up the rear in that list. Do any AAU schools with big football programs like Texas, Ohio St, Southern Cal, etc. oversign?

I didn't see that, but it is interesting. I'll look it up. Here's the SEC list from 247Sports showing all of the info they have on a class.

I don't think it gives a particular team that oversigns an advantage compared to other teams that oversign because it just leaves those teams equal to one another. In a perfect world (few injuries/transfers/etc.), lack of oversigning probably doesn't hurt the team - Missouri has only had a couple of injuries his year & started the same o-line in 9/11 games whereas last year they had a lot of injuries with an o-line like ours & ended with a 5-7 record. In the SEC, you have got to be perfect to compete & I don't like that the admin is putting us at a disadvantage.

The point of recruiting is to have 85 total ship players each year. With EE's counting backwards, you can over sign and still only have 85 total.

If you fall behind, you end up bringing in juco's which brings in more than the 25 a year allowed. I prefer to catch up with four year players than two.
