I am convinced of this. For the most part the Dems and the race baiters promote and want broken families. You ask what's their angle or motivation? How do they support this assertion?
Welfare. It is more profitable for a single mom and dad with kids not to marry because they will get more money from the government than if married. Fact, here in Alabama a couple not married, each has a child, receives each $6,000 for child care. Combined that's $12,000 a year. If you look at the past ten years of marriages in this nation you will find it has dropped tremendously. This government discourages intact families otherwise they would do everything in their power to support the home. There are more single parent homes, more couples living together, than ever in this nations history.
So why? IMO to create a dependent society. The dems want/need people who need a big government to take care of them. A government that will provide money for them, phones, healthcare. The more needy people there are the more likely they stat in power.
Black racebaiters support this too. Intact well functioning families at peace will put them out of business. I was listening to Bill O on this subject and he suggests some campaign and speeches. That may be good but not nearly enough. This country is falling apart because families are being torn apart and until the dems and even some repubs get thier act together and stop being self serving, this country will go down in flames.
Leaders from both parties disgusts me when they pretend to be all caring and compassionate when their main motivation is staying in power and becoming more powerful. Thats pride and greed run amok.

I agree, no one should be able to get more money for being single with children than married with children. That system promotes illegitimate pregnancies/bastard children.

I've worked with the poor in the inner cities for years. The OP has a great grasp of the obvious. Neither party cares about the poor, but only killing Arabs, taking bribes from Wall Street and killing unborn kids.

It keeps people dependent on the government - exactly what the Dems want.

Why is it incredibly stupid? Illegitimate children (if it's still okay to call them that according to the PC police) are good for business if you support big government.

Government, politics, and political theory in general doesn't understand human behavior. They don't understand incentives and motivations inherent in human behavior. Instead they rely on altruistic emotions. While it seems nice in theory those altruistic emotions work to reduce the incentives for the poor to become productive members of society. Government needs to understand their function when dealing with the masses in both societal and economic policy is all about incentives.

If you want more people to stay married and have kids in wedlock incentivize it. Give a marriage bonus for each additional year married. Give an additional bonus for kids born in wedlock versus not which you could tie in with the other bonus. Reduce the aid to single parents. This would incentivize marriage and wedlock births.

If you want low income employers to hire, then incentivize it. Supplement their cost.

If you want poor folks to choose to work than not, which currently financially the scales are pretty much even, tilt the scales towards work. Give an additional bonus for those with jobs and cut the aid to those without jobs. You'd create a have and have not class within the poor community itself, but the best motivation is often seeing your own peers and neighbors succeeding.

Even if you incentivize them to marry or stay married, they can do that but still not live together or function as a family. People are going to do what behavior benefits them the most financially but not actually live together or "be a family.". Seems pretty obvious to me.

Government fails at regulating behavior. It's up to individuals to live their life the right way.

Sure I'm sure some will take advantage of it, but there would be a dramatic shift towards marriage when compared to today where we have set up a systems that penalizes marriage.

Matt what you say may be true but I have a more jaded view of government once they tasted power will want more. I believe they know what they are doing and feel that giving to the poor makes up for it. I agree, what should be done is to make marriage an incentive as having kids to married couples. You are right on there, at least that's a great starting point.

you seem to think that govt is some kind of monolithic entity. meanwhile, you blame it all on Democrats. you're aware they're not the only political party involved in govt, right?

There will be a dramatic shift towards marriage, but why do you think people will actually function more as a family unit? It's pretty naive to imagine this will actually be beneficial. If people want to be together and raise children properly they are going to do it. Whether they are actually "married" or "unmarried" is going to be semantic. We will have way more marriages on paper, but the same amount of broken families.

Especially coming from the party that is against homosexual marriage because it weakens the "value of marriage", this idea is going to further weaken it.

River did you not read when i said both parties disgust me and both need to get their act together? I do think the dems are more into gaining/staying in power and I think they believe they are being compassionate by assisting the very people they keep down. I know we disagree here and that's ok.

As to would making incentives for marriage help families function as caring families, it will take more. Channing, as a culture we have very little morals and corruption in all things seems to be tolerated more than ever. As a society we need to adopt values that pull people together, honesty, integrity, respect. When our youth culture honors rap with the n word and killa this and that, and calls females bitches that has to change. TV programs, movies and games that promote violence, sex, and promiscuity diminishes us as a people. Truth is we are so much like computers, what goes in our minds has a way of affecting our behavior. IMO as a society we need to restore those values that bring about peace, joy and harmony.

The real answer of course is Jesus Christ, abiding by the Bible, but that's just MHO and I know many here disagree. As a nation as a whole we have become a valueless society as seen in broken marriages, single parents raising children, racial divide, class divide, crime, corruption, violence, racism, pornography, child abuse and the like.

So yes, just supporting marriage on its own isn't enough but it is a step in the right direction. We as citizens should demand more from our government.

River, not a whole lot which they too should be ashamed. I believe GB could have done more during his 8 years to promote marriage and family but didn't. Keep in mind for much of his years the dems controlled part of congress so I'm not sure if things were promoted but got shut down. I am not a GB fan. I was a repub but now an independent. GB started the bail outs and I wasn't a fan of going into Iraq. Not saying everything he did was bad, he did some really good things too, but unlike most leftist I can be critical of the party I favor.

As I said both sides are to blame and imho both sides want power more than they want to do good. It seems that power truly corrupts and the people end up the losers. River, I want small government. I want lower taxes so that families can earn more, save more, and spend more time raising families. We are taxed up the arse, fed tax, state tax, and taxes on everything we purchase. I live in Alabama, and there's tax even on groceries. Sales tax here is about 10%. Families are scared, stressed, and many are being laid off or moved to part time. If you've notice there is now a trend of employers going with part time help. Families need jobs and it seems this admin is at war with jobs. The biggest increase in jobs is with fed government. This economy is static despite trillions spent on stimulis which no one really has kept tabs on where all that money went. Bottom line River the subject of building up families isn't a real consideration and IMO I feel the dems like it this way because it supports their desire for bigger government to help (handouts) those in need. Right now the welfare rolls and foodstamps giveaways are at an all time high. Coincidence? I think not.
