Other than Notre Dame are we the most hated team?

I've noticed A LOT of people are happy to see us down, I mean A LOT.
They can't wait to throw dirt on us.

I think we have grown to be the most hated team in the country outside of notre dame.
I have never met somebody who didn't hate us, unless they were a fan.

My FSU buddy told me it's because of Tebow and Urban, He said everybody loved you in the 90's (I was really young then)

Is there any truth to his comments?

Not sure. A lot of people hated us in the 90s too though because of Spurrier. I wasn't young then. :)

I can't imagine that would be true, considering it has been five years since we were even worth thinking about to opposing fans.

Right now we might be the most hated team by its own fans. Not me, but you just have to read this board to know that it is true.

Sad but true. Yes we are a hated team. It does not help that we have a thuggary perception either. It started way before Spurrier too. Really weird how this happens. It has a lot to do with our fans back in the day. Sportscaster once said in the 80's Florida has the arrogance of Oklahoma but the tradition of Wake Forest. Now I think we only just have the arrogance.

At least when the thugs were running wild at Miami the Canes were nearly unstoppable. Although I totally disagree that our team is filled with thugs (IMO the thuggary perception is the result of an over zealous/unforgiving police force--how else can you explain the number of incidents involving scooters?), if UF is perceived as thugs, I wish our team would likewise be perceived as unstoppable.

When you win like we did in both football and basketball people get jealous.

Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame and Michigan tend to be at the top of these sorts of lists.

After those I'd say Miami and Alabama. I don't think we're really that hated across the college football spectrum.

Probably on par with Oklahoma, Texas, LSU ... successful teams but without as many villain qualities.

FSU was probably in the top 5 until their decline. People haven't really hated on them much because they haven't won squat in more than a decade.

And most importantly, a wise man once said "if they hate you, it's because you're beating them."

it just depends what part of the country you are in. around here, if your not talking to a gator fan, chances are that person is too fond of the gators. but the same goes for anywhere else, midwest probably dislike oklahoma, out west probably USC. either way i do think we are a top 5 nationally most hated program, thats because we are a solid program. up and down, but usually finding our way back to elite.

UF has grown to be too insignificant to be hated by anyone outside of Tallahassee and Athens.

I think we are a lot closer to being irrelevant than universally hated.

No it's not true but we're probably pretty high on the list. I think it's just our rivals that are enjoying seeing us down. Just like we've enjoyed FSU being down for the last 10+ years.

The list is going to consist of the teams that are consistently near the top for an extended period of time. Bama's got to be at or near the top, along with Texas, USCw, Ohio State, UF, LSU. FSU, Miami and Auburn were probably high on the list 15-20 years ago.

Yeah, the Gators don't have any tradition over the last 30 years compared to all those teams like Oklahoma and every other team except Bama, that has won fewer titles, but I guess it's no longer about actual history, it's about "human" perception, as usual.....which of course means squat, imo. ;)

A lot of the country gets Florida and Florida State mixed up... and kinda hates us both and jumbles us in with Miami as basically all the same types of school.

At least that's my perception of how people outside the southeast view us.

Along the Atlantic seaboard and the Northeast, north of Kentucky and west of the Mississippi River, Gator hatred barely moves the meter. Except for Notre Dame (who earned the scorn by thinking of themselves as above the game of college football), it's all regional.
