He needs to throw the ball somewhere every now and then, if for no other reason than just to keep the other team guessing a little. If he's going to continue running with it every time we'd be better off forgetting the "wildcat," other teams obviously have figured it out.

the guy who posted this hit the nail on the head!! couldn't agree anymore. maybe...just maybe if he would hand it off once in a while this could be effective, but i can't remember the last time that happened, certainly not since we took it to the house against UT, which was the last time that play went for more than 10 yards. burton was a HS QB, maybe we could mix it up and throw one out of it, no one would see that coming after watching the film of this guy(as long as he doesn't throw it to clay stone hands) go gators

that's a good point....I was wondering why this play all of a sudden stopped working. I don't trust Burton to throw it, if he needs to throw it then scrap it

he's gotten greedy on that play....read your keys. Also ...he had a flatout terrible game w/the reversing field on wildcat, the fumble without being hit in redzone and not scoring on the 2pt play

it has become a momentum killer in redzone and puts JD in 2nd and goal ....but a long goal to go and we get out of our normal play calls

I don't think the failure on the 2pt play was his fault. They had three defenders near the ball, we had three offensive players and Burton. Obviously the idea was for each of our 3 players to block one of their 3 defenders so that Burton could trot into the end zone untouched. But one of our players apparently didn't know his assignment so he double-teamed a defender which let the third defender unblocked and free to stop the play.

It's one thing if you are subbing in a super runner, like a Percy. Or if your QB is no type of running threat.

That play should never be run with a QB whose running ability equals, or surpasses, Burton's. We end up taking the threat of a pass off the table, and end up with no better a running threat.

You obviously havent seen him throw a ball? Its God awful...seriously. A wounded duck is not even applicable...its worse.

We have a 240 lb qb who can run. Burton cant throw and his brother sure as hell cant catch. WHY would our coaches have Clay Burton in a pass pattern????????? The dude lacks any pass catching skillset. Trey is valuable as a receiver, pitch outs, blocker and thats it.

The use of Trey in the wildcat is one of our more perplexing offensive principles, most times it would be more effective to just forfeit the down. And I am a fan of Burton but he's got to hand-off the ball or throw it at this point for it to be effective because our opponents are just sitting on it.

Wildcat=fad that is being phased out by most teams. Agree with OP, but next game TB will probably hand it off on a sweep and it will go for 6.

At some point, Meyer may have told him he was the next Percy Harvin.....
