Obviously we can rule a few out -- Perry and Cruz, for example. But a few of the others are dangerously close. I find it hard to believe the Pubs can string together three consecutive monumental disasters and blow another gimme.

Then again, this is an issue that contributes to those disasters. If a Pub that acknowledged science and had even quasi-reasonable stances on a handful of social issues could get the nomination, the Dems could just disband.

They should nominate the left-most candidate in their party again to give a gracious concession speech? (96, 2008, 2012)

What the hell is a "climate denier" as the headline describes? Yes, I deny that there is a climate. Where do these overpaid fat white morons learn how to write, FSU journalism school?

Yes, and the Dems are the party of science and the fetus is just a blob of tissue. MEDIA BRAINWASHING AT ITS FINEST!

So in other words, a slightly more conservative version of Obama.

No, they should develop someone electable. The left-most candidate in the party has the very flaws I alluded to in the OP. The others are DOA.

Well, now that you mention it, pretty much. Except this candidate can pretend to want to downsize government at the same time. That message sells with swing voters. The 18th century views are the killers.

It's a shorthand term, like "fracking", which is of course one very specific part of the entire process, is shorthand for the process as a whole. The writer probably assumed most readers would intuit that.

You can't really believe that type is electable outside of a gerrymandered district. Can you?

Shorthand does not encourage thinking. None of the above candidates could be any more fringe than Obama, who had a voting record to the left of the Senate's only self-proclaimed Socialist.

If anything shorthand makes you think more, since it doesn't spell out every last detail for you. But it's really just done for brevity. If someone is confused as to what "climate denier" is referencing, especially with the additional context provided by the article, then the subject itself is probably a non-starter.
