Kansas had one player who scored in double figures tonight. That was Wiggins who had a monster game with 26 points to accompany 11 boards. Next closest player was Mason with 9 points. Other than that no one scored higher than 6.

The Gators, on the other hand, had 4 players in double figures.
    Prather.....12
    Young.......12
    Wilbekin...18
    DFS...........15

Not knocking Kansas as they are a very good team but had Wiggins not been on fire it would have been a lot worse for them.

This is Donovan's design. If you play solid help defense, fight over screens, don't double in the post, and generally force a team to hit jumpers they create for themselves off the bounce, you often make the opponent's best playmakers beat you and most teams don't have more than one or two of those.

It also shows the unselfish way our players play.

Check out the points off turnovers numbers to see where the game was really won and lost.

What surprised me was our inability to get out in transition with all of those turnovers. Many were dead ball, but we had plenty of chances to get run outs and either Kansas got back or we simply didn't fill the lanes. We have been very good in that department thus far.

I wasn't focused on his off ball defense, but it seemed to me more like the lane was entirely clogged with good, tall bigs. Prather just didn't have any space to operate. That has always been may concern, especially when Prather plays next to Yeguete and Young. What impressed me was that Prather found other ways to contribute by grabbing eight boards and going 10-12 from the line, most in the final segment.

a solid mix of both but i think wiggins was a big part of it. but thats the upside to us having a team rather than relying on one star.

Wiggins looked as good as advertised: if he got an inch of room, it went in. I was surrounded by Kansas fans (very gracious in defeat, btw) and they are not exactly enthused about this year and seem to know they have a one-man team at the moment.

I think Kansas is going to be a tough out for any team by March

Prather had trouble getting on track against Kansas, but Finny-Smith did not, and Wiggins was guarding him a lot too.

true, but finny smith had it going from deep. 12 of his 15 were three's ( i think) and were scored when wiggins was guarding prather in the early part of the game. dodo was the catalyst of the huge run tonight. but other than those 3's during that run, we didn't get too much else going. not discrediting him, but just wanted to point out what really happened. i think this team's ability to have different guys step up every night is its biggest asset, not many team's can do that.

As always, KU has one of the most athletic teams in the nation. Hard to just out-athlete them.

No doubt, but you would expect more transition points off that many turnovers. Granted, some were dead ball, but many were not. We have been far better getting out on the break in previous games.

I do believe their athleticism allowed them to stop us from getting more points off the TOs. They were really good at filling up the lanes quickly and I felt their defense was the best we have faced.

Using the Box Score scoring system, Wiggins would have earned 106 Value Credits based on 26 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 4 turnovers. Wilbekin was our top player with 91 Value Credits. I guess that's why Wiggins is perceived to be the top player in the upcoming draft.

Yea Prather will struggle vs teams with good bigs. Kentucky worries me for that reason as well. WCS may be terrible off screens but if he is near Prather when he is driving he will knock the ball away. He is like Walker, just so lanky and tall that all he has to do is swing and he blocks anything near him.

I think it's more of spacing, than just big teams. We have enough games played this season for teams to have decent scouting reports on us.
I know I would sag off and force anyone but Scottie and Mike to shoot from outside.(DFS may now be added to the list). That is kind of what we did with KU when playing the 2-3 zone.
