Is it the hazing incident at Baruch College?

Just to help you out, mama, the linking function works exactly the same on the new site as it did on the old.

I know. I just get in a hurry because of having to do so much multitasking with the Holidays.

I do not want to say something that takes this to too hot but to me this is just another sign of how we as a Nation seems to have lost our moral compas

I can understand why you would feel that way--truly. I mean, when any of us see things like people dying because of some ritual or being murdered from random acts of violence, it can have a lasting and profound effect.

Tragic hazing incidents have been occurring for decades, if not centuries. I hardly think this qualifies as "losing our moral compass." Maybe we never had one in the first place.

Hazing deaths have an unfortunate history in the US, with the first recorded one back in 1838. Here's a good list of hazing deaths in the US. It's not pretty, and probably way under-reported. There are most likely many deaths that were hushed up to keep the word hazing out of the public report that didn't make the list. The fact that now, hazing is seen as unnecessary and bad, and not just a part of growing up tells me that perhaps we are finding our moral compass. To stop a problem, the first thing you need to do is identify it.

Very, very likely. And there have been innumerable injuries from hazing that never make it to any official documentation.

Though here is one from my undergrad alma mater back in the day (not my fraternity but I do know some of the people involved).
