Michael Phelps eats tons of pizza and sugary drinks, employs conventional training methods and is, by far, the greatest Olympian of all time.

Ryan Lochte has 'cleaned up his diet', no fast food, flips tractor tires and drags chains, and the 'new Golden Boy' was a comparative dud this Olympiad.

Finally, Natalie Coughlin, a fine swimmer, has gone totally organic. She even grows her own food. Her medal tally this Olympiad: one bronze.

    Just sayin ...

I know what you are getting at, and completely agree...

However, might as well toss in what kind of car they drive and weather or not the sleep on their stomachs. All mean about the same thing relative to the competitve outcome, IMO.
