    Your government at work...

An official from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services admitted at a House hearing today that no one knows how many people have actually paid for Obamacare coverage:

"So we don't know at this point how many people have actually paid for coverage?" asked a member of Congress.

"That's right," the CMS official conceded.

I'm still mightily confused about this, because aren't you paying a private insurer?

The incompetence in government is mind blowing. It's the ultimate con. Government is always bad at collecting stats so that NO one will hold them accountable. In the real world, you're fired 99% of the time if it takes this long.

Private insurers constantly share info with these public entities. This should be a no brainer with so much time to plan for this project.

Yes. I would expect the government to have Medicaid #s, but unless the law requires disclosure to the government WRT who pays private insurers for insurance, not sure how they would have a hard number.

It will be similar to the monthly job numbers: no matter what # it is economists will be "surprised".
Then, afterwards, the number will be 'adjusted'.
Finally, whatever the number it is proponents will argue that the number isn't what is important - it's the trend.
And we will all post back and forth.
    Carry on.

If the numbers favor the current administration, they usually get them out pretty fast.
