Pete was a horrible NFL coach in his first attempt.

IMO, Kiffen was fired because the team isn't living up to its roster's potential. They lost 6 games last season and 2 so far this and they looked horrible giving up 62 points Saturday.
Their past four classes, though possibly smaller, are loaded with good players. Yet their defense gave up 62(?) points Saturday and it looks like this recruiting class is going to be weak. Maybe it's because sanctions are about to hit but having only seven(total) 3 star recruits at this point looks pretty serious. But it he can't coach good talent he'll be worse with below average talent.
At current course and speed they have to rebuild completely once back to full classes.
I can only imagine many of the interactions past few seasons between Kiffen the AD, Administration, and booster were not terribly inspiring either.
This isn't true. He had one year of experience and was 6-10.
I guess Kiffin is illiterate, too.
John, Pete Carroll also was head coach of the Patriots in 1997 replacing Bill Parcells. He was head coach there for 3 years.
He took the Pats to the playoffs 2 of the 3 years.
It is true. Carrol HAS had sucess as a coach. And, in fact HAD HAD success as a HC prior to his time at USC. Del Rio HAS NOT.
And whoever said that Carroll had only had one year of experience as a HC before USC, look again. "This isn't true."
Carroll was 10-6 in 1997 with NE, 9-7 in 1998 and 8-8 in 1999. Never had a losing record with the Pats. Some of you are just dying to catch someone in a mistake and call them on it. What's the matter with you people?

Sumlin? LOL He ain't going nowhere while he's got Johnny Football at A&M.
Lets get some facts straight.
Pete Carrol took the Pats to the playoffs in 2 of 3 years.
Del Rio went 11-5, beat Pittsburgh in playoffs, and lost to the 17-0 Patriots in the playoffs in a game that was very close until late.
No I really wasn't trying to be difficult or catch anyone in a mistake. I stand corrected, forgot about his time with New England.
This was my original thought although I did forget about Carrroll's time with NE. I think Del Rio would be a solid move for USC.
Yeah but this may be the last season.
Sounds like a lot of excuses of which Kiffin has and most likely will continue to leverage. It boils down to leadership and the ability to lead an organization despite the odds not being in your favor. If it walks, talks and acts like a duck…it’s a fu*&ing duck.
We don't play USC. We recruit against them. My only concern is how this effects our recruiting against them. Adoree Jackson, Joe Mixon and David Sharpe come to mind. I'm sure there are others, more likely on the California end that could replace UF with USC on their short list. Jackson in particular is a kid that was probably on the fence between UF and USC. Haden was smart enough to ditch Kiffin early on and be in a position to name an attractive replacement in time to salvage their recruiting class. At this point, Kiffin's sudden exit appears to go in our favor, even if we just get one player. I think think Jackson might be ours now.
