With the prosecution rested, and the defense already have begun to present their case, it can't be long before this thing gets handed over to the jury...

As an aside, I would like to thank Ben, Michi, LD, BobK etc. for their EXCELLENT analysis, interpretations and explanations of the process. Forget the talking heads on the networks, we have our own Too Hot Dream Team right here...

I have read and watched as much as possible-just do not see how in any way except the jury being afraid of race riots that they can find him guilty-the prosecutors have not proven their case

CNN coverage is awful. They all sound like Chomp. Are they even watching the same trial?

I don't know which network to watch for the verdict. CNN? MSNBC? They ALL should be pretty entertaining.

In her instructions to the jury, I wonder if the judge will tell them not to consider the possibility of causing riots with their verdict.

    Race Riots. Unbelievable.

So, a Hispanic kills an African American and we have the potential for race riots. What a joke. How many times do you think that happens in LA in, say, a year?

And people, don't tell me GZ isn't hispanic.

The day's first sidebar is underway before the jury has been brought in.

CH, in answer to your point on last week's thread, I don't think professional jurors are a good idea at all.

-- Potential for corruption/extortion, if these are people even in a broad pool who are known as potential jurors, they would be targets all the time, even prospectively, for bribes or threats.

-- technocracy; professional jurors would quickly become self-appointed subject matter experts in everything they've heard testimony on before, and would begin to use it as a basis for judgments in the case before them. Most juries are selected to exclude a lot of subject matter experts for that reason, and doctors and lawyers more than anyone else rarely are jurors.

    Timeline

Did the state closely go over the timeline of the phone calls? GZ was on the phone, TM was on the phone, then they have neighbors calling in. These supposedly indicate how much time TM had to get 'home'. Will the defense show how much time TM had to get 'home' from the time GZ 'lost' him to the time neighbors called?
Did the state say how long it was between the time GZ hung up from the non emergency dispatch until the neighbors called? Does 1 minute or 4 minutes make a difference?

I agree on those points regarding professional jurors. As someone who primarily represents corporations in civil trials, I like bench trials rather than juries, but I wouldn't like professional jurors I don't think.

I think it would also raise questions as to whether a professional jury would satisfy the constitutional guarantee of a "jury of your peers."

How the hell does the judge over rule that book question? Its totally outside the scope of direct questioning.

"Outside the scope" seem like pretty straightforward calls, too. What was the actual question?

O'Mara finished and BDLR said to Mrs. Osterman "You wrote a book, right?"

Now he is just harping on the cuss words GZ uttered.

I'd like to see BDLR somewhere, I'd ask 'Hey mofo, want to go to dinner?'

It's totally beyond Bernies understanding that the term "****ing punks" can be used without malice, ill will, and intent to kill another human being. O'Mara is far and away the better lawyer in this case.

I don't think the Defense needs to be calling everyone George Zimmerman ever met to testify that those are his screams, so to the degree that's why Mark Osterman is now being called too I disagree with this strategy.
