Build a consistent winner and a better ballpark and fan support won't be a problem.
Got the winner. However the park is sterile
Last I checked, fans don't win titles. And for the football comment, lol! Have you been to a softball game? Softball, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and obviously football, get decent to solid attendance. When your baseball team finds ways to lose games, it gets old.
One thing I have to give it up to the softball fans for, they don't bitch about not having a roof. There is very little shade cover at KSP, and yet the stands are consistently full for the SEC series late in the year, and again for tournament action.
starting the debate about shade "early" this year
I suppose we have different definitions of "winner."
When I say "winner," I am talking about a team that has won a CWS or two.
UF still doesn't have that.
UGA has a CWS title.
USCe has two CWS titles.
Miami has 4 CWS titles.
LSU has 6 CWS titles.
That is the standard; and as has been mentioned before, there is simply too much HS talent in the state of Florida to ever have a losing record. A losing record at UF should never be acceptable, ever.
You left out the FSU CWS championship in 2008 in your list of ‘winners.’ Of course that wasn’t the SWAC.
This year has certainly been a disappointing one. This is the worst season the six under Coach O’Sullivan. The biggest reason seems to be the number of recruits that bolted for the big money in professional baseball. Maybe, the recruiting should have been more careful - maybe.
Coach O’Sullivan seems to be on the right track, even with the less than great results this year.
No question we should never have an under 500 record. UGA does have a CWS but would you classify them as a winner ? I mean you did list them?? Look over the past 6 years and I think most anyone would classify UF a winner. True not LSU / UM winner but who is...?? . FSU has zero CWS titles but I would think most college baseball folks would consider them a winner.
I think more people would consider SWAC a winner than Georgia. (feed me)
I think most would consider Georgia a fluke.
i would like to be a 'fluke' now and then. would a fluke title help fill the mac - even in sunny hot june days?
we can help sully's job - and the team in winning - but showing up as fans.
The fans did not show in a Super vs MSU a couple of years ago... What was it Wes maybe 300 ? If that game was in Starkville , Baton Rouge, Columbia , Fayeteville its at least 8k. Goes back to Gainesville being a sorry azz baseball town. Would an overhang help ? All those places I just mentioned have them.
An overhang would help for sure, that game was a noon start I believe. No reason we shouldn't have a roof.
Ask Georgia and Perno, but I would say No.
As for the ongoing fan support issues ----as they say, it is what it is. Still it is the coaches job to win no matter how many people show up to watch. LSU, MSU, etc are the exception, not the rule in college baseball.
Just for the record, if I lived in the Tampa, Orlando, Jax corridor I would be over all the time to see games. Maybe in retirement I can get closer. Good, cheap entertainment to me, but I am in the minority. As for the roof issue, guess it would be nice, but the same people that complain about it being too hot for baseball will show up with 80K other sweaty bodies at noon in Sept for a football game against some nobody.
high entertainment value if you're sitting near the section E hecklers!
that little bit of overhang off the pressbox must be what attracts the fans to softball!
As soon as we build an overhang somebody will complain that the Feb and March games are too cold because the sun is blocked
Just make it retractable...
