Ranjit has been terrible lately, definitely have to bunt him there.
Here comes the Calvary, right on time
Why go with the fake bunt twice? If you're gonna swing, swing.
I wouldn't mind seeing us not bunt at all the next game. We need all the hitting experience we can get.
We went a stretch of 6 games without an extra base hit, and we have 5 total hits on the day, and you say let him swing away? Really?
We're not really abnormally young. The starting lineup today had 2 seniors, 4 sophomores, and we used 2 juniors and a sophomore on the mound. That's about par for the course at this level.
If you're having trouble scoring runs, why would you voluntarily give away an out? You have a better chance of getting in a runner in from first with 0 outs than you do getting a runner in from 2nd with 1 out. It's basic math.
I agree, but only Tenn played more true freshman this than the Gators.
Tough loss. I hate questioning Sully but I have too. Since he thinks our SS is the next defensive Ozzie Smith, I wish he would only be in for late game defensive situations. There really isn't a reason to have a guy that has almost no chance of getting a hit in the game for 9 innings. It just doesn't make sense. I'm not trying to pile on the kid (so please don't tell me how great a Gator he is as I'm sure his backup is a great Gator too). We just need some offense and he is not the one to provide it. Unfortunately, this is just the reality. In a close game tomorrow, put him in late for defensive purposes if need be but please don't let him start.
Youth is not the problem. Lack of overall talent is the problem
Don't worry, we will only have 1-2 more games to have to deal with it. Then we never have to watch him play again.
I'm glad I had to work through this one. Go Gators.
Talking about big hitters, Troy has a guy from Guam who looks and hits like the Hulk. Why can't we get a guy like him every 20 years or so? Seriously, I've seen women softball teams bigger than our guys.
I understand your point, but the even more basic math is you got a guy that is struggling with the bat and is a PRIME candidate for a double play. Well, its all second guessing at this point.
I think Sully's biggest job right now is to keep some of our baseball prospects from signing to MLB.
A good hitting coach might be up there as well.
While I realize this team is very young, they have still been hard to watch all season. They just can't hit a lick and I'm beginning to wonder if they need a really good hitting coach. Their approach to hitting is horrendous! They stand there looking at strikes right down the middle, then get in a hole and have no chance or they swing at really bad pitches. Also, the entire lineup for the most part tries to pull every pitch. I can't even remember the last time we actually bunched two or three hits together in an inning. This small ball playing the percentages approach just doesn't cut it when no one in your lineup can hit. It is pretty pathetic! Might s well just let them take their cuts. Maybe something good might happen like Shafer's three run bomb today.
I have hopes that they will be a better team next year, but I also wonder about their ability or lack of ability to hit the baseball. These kids have been playing baseball all of their lives and by now I believe you can either hit or you cannot and with this group unfortunately, it appears to be the latter.
Looks like these guys needed more than luck. Pretty lackluster talent on this team and its hard to say that. Maybe they can get a win tomorrow, but its probably time to come home and get ready for next season.
Well damn. Thought this was going to be the beginning of a great run after reading we hit a 3 run hr after I left. Unfortunately, another good pitching effort wasted. Need to win tomorrow, to at least end this losing streak.
Ordinarily, I love small ball, but in the 9th down a run with ramjit up, I'm not bunting. If we are tied then maybe.
Mike Zunino says Hi and wants to know if you slept through last season.
