Looking for its third win is as many games at home this week, the third-ranked Gators welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to the O’Connell Center on Saturday afternoon. This will be the second of the two teams’ home-and-home games this season, with the Gators having edged out the Tide 68-62 on January 28th at Coleman Coliseum. Florida (20-2) is currently riding a 14-game win streak, including a perfect 9-0 mark in SEC play, and is coming off of a hard-fought 68-58 win over Missouri on Tuesday night. The Gators still hold a two-game lead over the Kentucky Wildcats for first place in the SEC, while Alabama (9-13) has been a disappointing 3-6 in conference play and sits tied for next to last in the conference standings.

Despite its record, the Tide have one of the best scoring guards in the SEC in Trevor Releford, who scored 14 points in the two teams’ previous meeting and averages 18 ppg on the year. Containing Releford will be a defensive key for the Gators, as will be staying disciplined in the zone and limiting open shots from the perimeter. Florida will also look to take advantage of Alabama’s poor rebounding (T-12th in the SEC) in an effort to complete defensive stops while also creating opportunities for second-chance baskets on the offensive end. Ultimately, look for Florida to smother Releford and the Tide offense, and ride big offensive contributions from Casey Prather and Co. en route to extending its record home winning streak to 29 games.

Releford is the guy who can beat us if he goes off. Contain him, and we cruise.

    GO GATORS!!!!!

I will be THRILLED to see Releford graduate and move on after this year. That kid always comes to play against us. There is nobody else on that team.

Sounds like the perfect time for C Wok to rack up some rebounds.

At this point in the season, every game is exciting. I'm betting we'll win, but teams like 'Bama are desperate for a win. Still, of the nine games left, this is probably the one I feel best about.

The next 2 games on the road (right after this one) will tell you everything you need to know about us.

I don't think people should overreact and assume that we aren't a great team if we lose the next two games. It's possible that happens.

Kentucky may be one thing, but I will be very disappointed if we lose to Tennessee.
I understand that anything can happen in sports....that would mean a step backwards.

I don't think so. UT at home is tough on anyone in the SEC. Especially Florida as the past shows.

As to this game I agree Releford is very good and thus very dangerous and also we need to sink those FT's.

Regarding UT and UK - I always worry about away games - and these two are no exception. I trust Coach Donovan and our seniors to get it done. perhaps with the assistance of -------

Exactly. I would add Ole Miss to the list, as well. If Marshall Mathers somehow miraculous hits 40% of the 15 threes he will try, and he gets any help, then that game on the road in the Tad could get dicey. But that is precisely what happens at this stage of the conference season. If we win one out of UK, UT, and Ole Miss, I will be perfectly happy.

Hopefully the team shows up more energetic than the fans today. Rowdies are later and more lethargic than usual. I guess it comes with a noon game
