Purifoy may test well at combines or on the SPARQ test but the truth is Watkins consistently makes plays on the field while Purifoy does not. Once again Watkins is right on his man and knocks the ball away at a critical time. Once again Purifoy is giving up too much cushion and allows his man to make the catch - then blows the tackle for good measure.

Maybe Purifoy can make some plays on Offense - he is a talented athlete - but all the talk I heard in the preseason about him being a first round draft pick is laughable. An NFL team would have to have complete lunatics running their personnel dept to spend a first round pick on him unless he shows a whole helluva lot more than he's shown so far.

    Next point: Pass rush.

Where the hell was it? We were told we were going to have a good pass rush this year. The only sack I remember came on a blitz by Ronald Powell. Other than Easley, I didn't see any consistent penetration either....and its not like they've got some great OL or anything. The Offese was obviously the biggest of our problems but as well as the Defense played overall, I was led to believe we would see more from our Defense in some key areas.

Purifoy is much like Tyrann Mathieu a couple of years ago - his actual cover skills are kind of overrated but damn the dude just makes plays all over the field.

Totally agree with you on Watkins... he's been our best DB so far.

Disagree with the pass rush... I thought we had pretty good pressure without blitzing.

Maybe, but the secondary is too small. Don't care how much talent they have, very few CB/S under 6 feet are effective in college. Most receivers are 6'2" and above in college. Expect a lot of jump balls by the opponents this year. And hopefully this ends the ridiculous pre-season hype that UF has the best secondary in the nation.

So our secondary giving up 12 completions is a big problem to us now? Really?
    Our secondary is great.

I think LP is a baller...Watkins, Roberson and Hargreaves too.

Of all the dumb posts today, this may be the dumbest. Roberson and Purifoy are both 6'0".

Please tell me which team has a bunch of 6'0"+ corners?

Purifoy is an amazing athlete, but doesn't seem to care for the fundamentals.

Nonsense. Riggs is really the only DB I would consider "undersized" at safety. Our corners are all prototypical size (about 5'10-6'), VHIII might be a little under that but he is a baller as a true freshmen. I think Roberson is considered a long/rangy corner.

Our secondary also played great, with 1 exception where Maye got burned on the deep pass.

Don't know what the hell game you were watching. After the 1st two drives we TOTALLY shut them down and dominated defensively. Our offense just kept doing nothing with the game right there for the taking.

I said all last year and the offseason Jaylen is best corner on the team. That offseason move to safety made no sense. Purifoy looked good today though outside of the missed tackle and he did block the punt to set up the early TD. He is a playmaker but Jalen is our best cover corner

I think Vernon H. And J Watkins should be starting corners. Pass rush is good

I thought the defense played lights out except for a couple of plays. I am afraid they missed the wake up call in the first quarter, but after that--geez.

Totally agree on the LP comments and have said so in the past. And predictably got trashed for doing it. Great athlete, which is why the scouts like him, but whiffs too often and there appear to be a few other guys playing as good at cb or better.
As for the pass rush, agree in the first half, but they turned it on in the second half and Miamis offense was ineffective.

I like the idea of Purifoy more at WR, KR. Get the ball in his hands.

He's like our 4th best corner anyway, especially with VHIII looking like a ball-hawk. I see Purifoy making plays on special teams all the time, but as a corner I never see him do anything but miss tackles.

Nobody on our offense is really a threat to bust a big play. Purifoy at least has that explosive potential (no idea what type of WR skills he has).

Teams and media guides ALWAYS add few inches to players.
They might be 5'10" on an a good day.

    .

AFTER is the operative word in your statement. And a 5'9" freshman at safety is asking for trouble.

Roberson has been our best corner for two seasons now and was again today. Watkins had a good game today, but he's a jack of all trades type.

Purifoy is a mixed bag who makes as many plays as he misses. The ones he makes always count though

LP seems to miss too many tackles.

This^^ This secondary is awesome ... had Matt Elam come back there wouldn't be a better one in the country and even without him I don't know that I trade for any other. Can't remember the last time we had four starting CB's. Good problem to have.
