Tilly, you've written 16,691 posts. I've never agreed with one more than this.

I don't know whether UF would have been as successful had he stayed. I don't know whether UF would have wont more titles or not. All I know is that I never had as much fun watching football as I did when Steve Spurrier was coaching teams I loved, both the Bandits and the Gators.

I wish he hadn't left; I wish he had been invited back when the job was open. I'm not getting into a who was better argument, I just know I had a lot more fun as a fan when he was coaching my team than I ever had before or since.

I absolutely agree with this. I don't see how anyone sees it any other way.

No one but UM was considered. Urban and Machen knew each other, Machen knew what he had done at Utah. There was no way this was going any other way.

There will be good coaches that come and go over the years. Some even great but there will be only one old ball coach

Personally, given that Georgia has LSU and Florida on it's schedule, while South Carolina basically only has UF and Georgia, I hope that Georgia wins this game which will help the Gators in the SEC Eastern Division competition.

Spurrier has always been a wonderful example of what athletics should be like. He likes to make it fun and interesting.

Meyer won 2 national titles in 6 years.
He had another team go 13-1.

    He went 5-1 in bowls
    He went 5-1 vs UGA
    He went 5-1 vs sow
    He went 1-0 vs scUM
    He went 6-0 vs Tennessee.

He had a player win a Heisman Trophy.

This in an era when in all but his first year, you had to be a National Champ to win the SEC.

Or you could say that if you won the SEC, you got a chance to win the National Championship. That wasn't at all the case during SOS's tenure here.

I love it when people just make stuff up, then pretend it's true.

Except for Uganda all those teams were not near as good as thy were in the 90

And as far as nc are concerned there is more luck involved just to get in the game than there is winning the sec

    You mean like LSU?

Its not "luck". Its beating the sows consistently. When we didn't do that, it knocked us down in the rankings and made it impossible for us to get to an MNC game. Beating them regularly allows us to overcome early season losses.

Love the OBC; pretty much despise Urban Liar; but ...

The hire of Meyer was the right one, than and now.

Until SOS leaves South Carolina, he's a Gator traitor.

Unless you go undefeated, which UF has never done, there is a lot of things that need to happen that are out of ufs control in order to make it to the nc game.

And yes spurrier had a much harder Fsu team in the 90's than Meyer did

You can control beating your rivals and Meyer was simply better at it than Spurrier was. One of the reasons for that was because Meyer won the big head to head recruiting battles far more often than not while Spurrier lost them far more often than not.
