I had heard of this guy, Dr. Sam Vaknin, several years ago and it wasn't until recently that I really started to believe his claim that Obama is a malignant pathological narcissist. He made the claim the way back in 2008 based on some observations he had made about Obama's behavior, speech, and personal history. According to Dr. Vaknin, one of the world's greatest experts on narcissistic personality disorder, his claim is based on watching over 1200 hours of footage on Obama. Here is a video of him talking about what malignant pathological narcissism is (it isn't what you think it is), and how Obama's actions reflect traits that are consistent with malignant pathological narcissism.

Diagnosis by watching TV footage? Sounds very professional.

Let me guess. You immediately went to Think Progress or Media Matters after reading the thread? He explains all the reasons why he came to this conclusion in the video. Why don't you actually listen to what he has to say? He is not American. He is actually a European. So he doesn't watch Fox. He isn't a member of the Tea Party. You may actually learn something if you watch the video.

Well that qualifies lots of folks as experts on many things. All it takes is watching 1200 hours of _______and by golly, you know it all.

For those wondering, my first thought was that I have to be an expert on Florida football.

I've never seen it. I do know that Obama's 1st person pronoun density is 3x higher than that of the normal person, and apparently that is a clinical measure that is used in order to assess pathological narcissism.

Vaknin points out that he is not a mental health professional. His PhD is in philosophy but there's some question about whether it's real or not.

Malignant narcissism means you are essentially an aggressive sadist who gets off on things like tormenting others in humiliating ways, and you might be a serial killer or mass murderer. Like say, someone who thinks nuking a middle eastern country or rubbing pork fat on dead bodies is a good way to fight terrorism. ;)

Dr. Vaknin explains in the video that it is a grave mistake to take our own flaws and project them onto the malignant pathological narcissist. There is healthy narcissism, and then there is malignant pathological narcissism. He describes the malignant pathological narcissist as a child whose personality was destroyed in his/her youth who projects a fake personality to all those around him/her. It is a very very interesting video. I highly recommend watching it.

    A little about "Dr" Vaknin.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Vaknin

Not exactly a reliable source for even a remote psychological evaluation unless one buys into the "it takes one to know one" school of analysis.

He is not a mental health professional, but he is an expert in the field of narcissism. He wrote a book on the subject. Look at all the great reviews it gets on Amazon. And then he has a youtube channel completely devoted to the subject of narcissism. He clearly knows what he is talking about when it comes to the subject of narcissism.

Given that narcisism involves mental health, how can those be mutually exclusive? I thought being an expert involved being recognized as such by peers, not making videos and writing books.

Expert, how? Self-proclaimed? Oh, that's right, he's got a bunch of videos on Youtube. I guess that pretty wraps it up.

I think a person can know a lot about narcissism without knowing much about how to treat it.

Again, knowing a lot about something doesnt make one an "expert." Usually that involves some kind of peer recognition as such, usually based on professional practice, publication and research.

Well it seems like this thread really brought Obama's sycophants out of the wood work.
