Time to do away with obamaphones. In 2012, $2.2 billion went towards obamaphones.

Perhaps it is indeed, but this latest O'Keefe stunt hardly is among the most moving reasons to do so.

This program is like any Obama would construct, designed to benefit certain people. Wait until you find out Obamacare never intended for most of the same who received phones to pay a premium.

Absolutely - It's a tax I don't need to pay. To pay for other people's free phones has to be an extortion of some sort... and doesn't seem to pass the Constitutional muster.

I've got news for you. You can sell or exchange any gov't benefit for drugs. Why, one could buy heroin with their SS money or student loan money. My God!

Since when did SS become a government benefit. It is paid for by the receipt in advance

you do realize that despite it's name this program started in 1996 giving aid to land lines. then was expanded as people moved away from land lines. it was put into place months before obama was elected. guess we should call it the clintonbushobama phone

Obama didn't "construct" this program (Lifeline Assistance program was passed under Reagan), and it doesn't come from tax money

Well actually it does in a way. It is payed for by a mandatory fee (which most would consider a tax) on all phone services if I'm not mistaken.

O'Keefe and conservatives don't care that this program has nothing to do with Obama, it's about the narrative they continually are looking to portray about Obama...

No shame here with the racial undertones of the "Obamaphone" narrative

Are the revenue "donations" from the service providers optional?

USF has been on my various phone carrier bill for years. It is collected and sent to the govt for their programs. Sounds like the definition of a tax to me.

Wonder what would have happened if I deducted that amount from my payment each month?

that is the cell phone carrier passing it off to the customer...i agree that tangibly it makes no difference on the wallet, but it can't by definition be called a tax

the federal gov doesn't mandate that they pass it off
