Please... we all know what was implied in Obama's statement. We aren't 5 years old... and we know how that dud in the WH rolls.

If, as quoted earlier in this thread, President Obama (PO) said "we need to stem the tide of gun violence.." it is A LOT different than we need "less gun violence." The latter is a candy-assed paraphrase equivalent to "the sky is blue and we need less companies filing bankruptcy." Completely true and utterly of no value. A "tide" indicates being overwhelmed and "stemming the tide" requires constant and ongoing effort as the tide does not rest.

As far as the wiki links; well, if Ronald Reagan said what he said in 1986 (didn't see a date attached) when the population was 240 million and now it's over 30% higher and we have the same actual numbers of homicides per year; then, effectively, the gun homicide rates has declined by 30% in the last quarter century. Can we do better? Sure, and we should. But, when PO is commenting on the GZ trial and throws in his "stem the tide..." comment; then, it's not me getting my conservative panties in a wad (I know, bad visual - and I went back to boxers...much less confining) it's a president who is trying to use the tragedy to leverage support and money for his agenda...which includes further division. PO's comment about the "police officer acted stupidly" in 2009 shows his mind is like cement: thoroughly mixed and permanently set....and damn the facts.

There are regulated gun saftey laws already. It wasn't a knee jerk reaction, juat a statement. People being uneducated is the real problem, but hey, more laws - why not?

I am seriously amazed at how many people, and commentators (I'm looking at you CNN and MSNBC) that still think SYG applied to this case. Wonder if North will man up and admit his mistake?

Geez, the way I see it is a concealed weapon prevented bodily harm (or maybe death). That's a good thing, no?

So everything is perfect and no need to look at ways to reduce the 30k deaths a year from guns. Gotcha.

Apparently I was one of them. My bad, hasn't watched much of the trail but thought he invoked SYG from the coverage I'd seen.

the bottom line with so much of this is simply guns. that's why Trayvon Martin died. that's why the guy in Hernandez case died. The Jax case that will get a lot of attention (white guy shoots black teen at convenience store.)

What ties them all together? Some idiot had a gun.

The tie is someone pulling a trigger, nothing less, nothing more. Completely different cases and circumstances.

People still defended themselves before guns, and apartment criminals still killed each other to advance or conceal other crimes before guns. Where is that "Shane" quote? Flawless all-American wisdom in the one.

All you have done is caused a change in weapon selection, it does nothing to affect men's minds or intentions.
