So with all of that said, do you now support the initiative or don't you, or is it simply wait and see?

With the information as it stands today?

I would support it; however, the announcement should've been made not by Obama alone, but by all the companies involved with a common spokesperson. Or he should've given examples of corporations who will be participating in the initiative. A clarification needs to be made that this is a private enterprise and not the US government handing out more money it doesn't have.

There also needs to be accounting and perhaps some clarification to show how this will be any different than prior investments in the region, with perhaps a neutral third party monitoring for cases of fraud when it comes to assigning funds from the project(s). Pretty such that'll be in place from China's end as well so it's not unreasonable.

I just don't want any of our money going to this with everything that needs to be worked on here. Our government needs to deal with the issues HERE before trying to help others. There are parts of this country that don't have reliable power grids, or access to safe water, etc. But private corporations are free to do what they feel with their profits, and if that includes this initiative which might bring good returns, then go for it.

My objection was to possible government funding of that proportion at such a time as this when we're still in "sequester" mode.

$7 billion to Africa, but he doesn't have enough to open White Tours or the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds? he just throws our money around everywhere except here in America (except when it's going into the pockets of his campaign supporters).

It would sound good IF our companies are granted the opportunity to do business there, and their due diligence tells them it's an opportunity to make real money and build Africa's infrastructure. But if there's a pledge of taxpayer money it's a different game.

You do realize that the aid will most likely be in the form of loan guarantees rather than direct aid and that the organizations providing the loans are entities not directly funded by the US Treasury?

I assume the tanks and planes which have already been delivered are just guarantees?

There's one thing I've learned about this administration... it is corrupt to the core and it lies to the American People and gets away with it because the LMSM is it's cheerleader squad and refuses to hold them accountable.

So I f you guys are correct we have Barry trying to get credit fro what Private Industry is doing. But of course they didn't build that. Your own arguments make the guy look like a self adoring prick.

Which is also why it made this whole thing confusing at the beginning. When it says "Obama pledges" to me that sounds like the government. If it's private business it would read something like "It was announced today a conglomerate of US companies will blah blah blah" or a group, or something.

Obama's trying to get credit for it - nothing new about that either.
