We don't and never have needed to increase the debt limit to stay current on our sovereign debt. The only things we would fall behind on if we hit cap would be the idiotic and vain promises we made ourselves that we never had the means to pay for.

Boehner is a pathetic excuse for a leader and will go down as one of the worst Speakers ever. He can't even control his own caucus let alone get anything comprehensive done.

The thread headline could just as easily read: "Putin Humiliates Obama By Laughing At His Threats".

    Same difference

Yep. Obama is acting like a child that's taking his personal humiliation to vent his anger towards Boehner. Obama got spanked on the world stage by Putin and Obama's venting.

Yeah, if you would pay the country's bills like the constitution says you have to do, that would be great.

Yes, and it would have been great if previous presidents did too - like Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2. Why this issue suddenly bothers conservatives is baffling.

Wow, you really don't get it, do you? The irresponsible deficit spending has ALWAYS bothered TRUE conservatives. It's the RINOS who wanted to accept it and make excuses for it.

Reagan-got fooled by believing the Democrats to be good for their word in promising to reduce spending, which didn't happen. Reagan was wrong to sign the bills.

Bush I-classic RINO. I respect him as a war hero, but he was a lousy President

Bush II-took irresponsible spending to an unprecedented level. Another bad President.

Bush III aka Obama-made all of the other bad, irresponsible Presidents and their soul killing deficits COMBINED look like pikers.

So when does the runaway spending stop if Congress and the President never instill fiscal discipline on the Federal Govt?

How long can we continue to run $500B-$1T deficits, keep passing deficit funded budgets and cry foul when the debt ceiling isn't raised?

What stops the momentum? What puts us in a position to leave the circular calc of running further into debt, but mandating we continually raise the debt ceiling to pay for previous legislation and budgets, all the while advocating for better fiscal management?

The only answer is to force the government to prioritize what's important via deep and indiscriminate budget cuts until those running it get the message. The message that unless they figure out how to live within their means, it'll be figured out for them. It's what happened in the sequester and more of it needs to happen until it sinks in.

But nobody with any intellectual honesty or objectivity can advocate for continuing to raise the debt ceiling because we need to "pay bills we've already racked up", without also advocating for fiscal pain for the Federal Government so we're not forced to continually face the same issue.

it's only a humiliation if Boehner learns from it.

    since that is not likely

    it isn't a humiliation

All these things are being done under the current administration. If you have any doubts just go back and look at government growth under Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II.

Yeah, the tru conservatives alway worry about deficits but they lose their voice when a pub president is in office. They only find their voice to make excuses for the growth of government and deficits under the same pub presidents.

Exactly my point. That, or they blame the Democrats. It's Texi who flat out does not "get it". Look in the mirror and say "WOW!".
