I would say it is a "forever" project. Or at least in the foreseeable future based on what we know of their history.

Half watched that press conference. Gotta say the man looked presidential. Except for the little bit of what looked like cocaine on his nose.
I liked that he didn't set a time table. If he keeps up air strikes I'll be happy.

I thought he said that his vacation would take some time and he wouldn't give a timetable.

Then why if the F did we leave, oh that's right, he had to please his base and now he has a cluster pluck on his hands.

    Actually, it was three reasons:
    1. We'd already signed an agreement in 2008 to leave in 2011.
    2. Americans, not just Obama's base, were tired of Americans dying.
    3. We had to leave eventually, unless you really wanted us to stay there forever, watching Americans die.

It's a long term project because the people who want to destroy western civilization, regardless how delusional they may be, have not quit fighting.

Nor will they anytime soon. They can't be defeated under current societal/political conditions, so let's just let them shoot each other and supply air support when necessary to keep the real wackos from overtaking the moderate wackos or to thwart genocide attempts.

The entire ME region makes one lean towards the US becoming a quasi-isolationist country. Stay ventured into the rest of the civilized world, and get the holy moly heck out of the entire Muslim world. Leave it to them to destroy themselves in their own due time.

Right. And as much as I hate to say Tricky Dick Cheney was right, I would add: keep them over there, and not over here.

Meaning, if say, the ISIS crowd actually gets a piece of turf to work from - with the intent (they already said it is) to launch attacks against our version of western civilization - we need to smoke them repeatedly until they die.

And speaking of glorious death, just why aren't the ISIS dirtbags running out with bulls eyes on their chests when we do flyovers anyway ? I thought they wanted martyrdom and death more than anything to prove how righteous they are in the eyes of their god. What ? Our bombs and uranium bullets aren't good enough for 'em ?

One problem with that, don't think that there aren't any here. Been hearing more and more and hundreds fighting there are are Americans and Europeans which means they have passports. Just something for consideration.

Oh my remark was just a throw-it-out-there kinda thing. Not practical at all, but certainly the frustration of the entire region of animals are simply getting worse and worse. Yes, they have been doing this for thousands of years and nothing will EVER be settled---and I firmly believe that is no exaggeration--NEVER be settled.

But with the world getting smaller so to speak, and those animals who live there in the ME becoming more and more intent on screwing with us....it becomes easy to say/feel/think we should either leave and never look back, or simply take an attitude of 'we are tired of wussying around'...melt the whole friggin place.

One thing not to be underestimated are their recruiting efforts and ability to get some people in the West. When people start talking this isolationist stuff like we can run from this, better guess again. This chit has been too close for comfort for me twice in 93 and 2001.

One of our first orders of business should be a bi-partisan long range energy program.

I'm not saying that's the answer, but when we got dragged into fighting politically correct wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) the option has to be on the table.

    1. Could have been changed/extended
    2. Just the liberals/dems. Iraq was calm and we were in the process of building/training their military to defend the country so the BS that is going on now would not be happening.
    3. Yes we would leave eventually but we could have left enough there that if this were to happen we could have stopped it. The number that was requested was 10,000 to stay.
