It turns out Kehinde Wiley, the artist former President Obama hand-picked to paint his Secret Garden-esque likeness, also has a penchant for painting disturbing images of black women holding severed white peoples’ heads.

For his part, Obama claimed that "what I was always struck by when I saw [Wiley's] portraits was the degree to which they challenged our ideas of power and privilege."

Yeah, that must be it. A black woman holding a dead white person's head is...challenging.

Slow news day, eh? Also breaking news: "Hillary Clinton's gardener dislikes dwarves!" "George Bush's mother's friend enjoys watching documentaries on the Confederacy!" "Jimmy Carter is . . . still alive?"

That's not actually the case, but let's not read further into an artist besides what a page that no longer exists has to say...

It would be front page news if Trump or any other republican used an artist known for making portraits like that.

If any active president did this, it should be news, but if any former president did it why should we care?

That is the one example of "portraits like that" out of his works. And it's based on the works by other artists
This group of paintings represents a significant departure from Wiley’s previous subject matter by depicting African-American women, his first-ever series dedicated to female subjects. The models for the paintings were cast on the streets of New York City. Chosen by Wiley at the Louvre, Their poses are based on historical portraits of society women by Jacques-Louis David, Thomas Gainsborough and John Singer Sargent, among others.

...and here's the official portrait of Obama that will hang in the National Portrait Gallery. I guess the likeness isn't bad, but the background is a little overwhelming. The painting is too busy, IMO.

It reminds me of this Homer Simpson gif:

Meanwhile the artist who did Michelle Obama's portrait did an amateurish job, IMO. It barely even looks like her!

Donald will probably select Eric Trump to paint his portrait.

Sure it will be awful, but it’s another opportunity for a Trump family member to make money off of Donald having been elected and you can’t pass those up.

    ;)

I'm not a fan of either one of their politics, but I think they deserved better quality of work. Michelle Obama simply doesn't look like the subject much at all, and President Obama looks very dour and unhappy, like he's just going to spend history at the gallery judging passersby. Leave politics out of it, isn't his defining Presidential characteristic his vast amounts of outward chill?

It’s like someone melded an Obama likeness with a “Sean Spicer hiding in the shrubs” theme.

Backgrounds for all of this guy's art are too busy. IMO. Not a fan.

Questionable choice in artist both on style and subject matter of these more controversial paintings.

Not a cut down, it's a fact. The portrait clearly attempts to cover that up.

Race-baiting, savage, portraits like hers are not ART, not even close to art... Unless HATE propaganda is now considered art.
