    umcp, your thread is well written....however, having witnessed leaders in business, politics and athletics, I remain unconvinced that terrific leadership, ideas, tone and management team are not terribly important. A great leader cannot have much impact on a bad company with terrible products other than to blow it up. Same as a coach...you've got lousy players, you have to blow it up...and that takes time. As for political leadership, moving the needle is like stopping an aircraft carrier going 30 knots...it takes awhile. But we've all seen both good and bad examples of political leadership especially at the presidential level. It does make a difference.
