The fact that the New York times has put one dollar of its resources in this is a reflection of the national interest in this story.
And I don't want to hear about FSU's fan base. They are victims of this system too.
College football is corrupt and FSU helps lead the way.
The NCAA must reform or perish.

Anybody know if this is common practice? Seems like a conflict of interest to me.

"Records show that Florida State’s athletic department knew about the rape accusation early on, in January 2013, when the assistant athletic director called the police to inquire about the case. Even so, the university did nothing about it, allowing Mr. Winston to play the full season without having to answer any questions."

Thanks for posting. Wow. Just wow.

You don't want the NYT on your ass. This is not a one-story type of deal. NYT>FSU.

A decade before the Winston case, the inspector general found that Florida State had violated its policy when the athletic department failed to inform the campus police of a rape accusation against one of its standout football players. Mr. Ruiz, the former prosecutor who handled the case for the state attorney’s office, recalled that the coach at the time, the revered Bobby Bowden, attempted to convince him that a crime had not occurred. A jury eventually acquitted the player.

“I learned quickly what football meant in the South,” said Mr. Ruiz, who grew up in New York State. “Clearly, it meant a lot. And with respect to this case I learned that keeping players on the field was a priority.”

This makes me livid. Everyone involved in this sham should be strung up. Justice was not served here but I will say this, everyone who turned a blind eye and those who were responsible for this will one day give an account to a higher Judge, that you can be certain of.
What's worse, many of sow's students, fans, continue to deny, distort the truth. Sports trumps everything else and shame on them. Much of our culture today is in the toilet and it's beyond sickening.

    Two thoughts:

1.) I am so thankful that our Heisman winning QB's have lived by a different moral code than Winston.

2.) I also like to think that if Winston was a Gator, most of our fan base (or at least a significant percentage) would have conducted themselves quite differently than the FSU fan base has to this point.

    I agree with 1.

    I disagree with 2.

They are in denial and it is understandable.

Just read that article. Does seem very thorough.

All they needed to do was close it with Bowden's letter of commendation to a judge deciding sentencing on one of his former players who shot a woman (twice I think), raped her and left her for dead, after stealing all her family's Christmas presents.... Bowden did that so he could lock up the commitment of the player's cousin.
