His ratings suck and I think even his staunch followers are getting sick of his schtick.

He's been a bit over the top in his gushing for each of the last two presidents. Unfairly vicious to Hillary Clinton, though.

River - I was not aware that he was vicious towards Hillary. He will have to change his tune between now and 2016.

No doubt old tingle leg has head further up Hussein's ass than even a few in here do. Now THAT is saying something.

His opinion on Hussein--absolutely inconsequential and moot.

that seems impossible, Hilary is deserving of some good old truth be told stuff. not just democratic but what makes our leaders leaders, not achievement, not accomplishment, not new ideas, not anything other than massive egos allowing them to parade as "the" answer for america. clinton, boehner, reid, pelosi, cantor, paul jr..... it is just hard to believe these are our best. i so wish term limits were realistic. our entire political structure needs implosion and a do over

i think most Americans think there's more to Hillary Clinton than simply a wronged woman.

I agree...I think she is well versed in concealing facts too. "What difference does it make at this point".

    She's very accomplished.

I can't comment on Obama-gushing, but any gushing for W came to an abrupt end with the invasion of Iraq, which Matthews vociferously opposed.

I started watching Hardball around the time of the Clinton impeachment. It seemed that by the time it was over Matthews had made up his mind on the Clintons' character - or lack thereof - and had lost all respect for them. Maybe he hasn't changed his views in the interim.

    Not really. 2005:

ometimes it glimmers with this man, our president, that kind of sunny nobility."

"Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left," adding, "I mean, like him personally." (at a time when Bush's approval rate was in the 30s and 40s.

I guess we have different definitions of gushing. I don't view stating that Bush was viewed as likeable - even while carrying low approval ratings - as gushing.

Remember, unlike you (based on previous discussions) I actually used to watch the show. To the extent that Matthews was ever anything approaching a W fan - which he really wasn't - that fanship ended with Iraq.

Those were his performance ratings. Bush always had a high PERSONAL approval rating. The flipside of Clinton.
