I will apologize if someone already came up with a post along these lines but I just had a really crazy thought about our team going into next year....

OK this all hinges on Murphy's performance for the remainder of this year but let's say he keeps showing up like he has done so far, who knows we may even win the east. At any rate we would have 2 seasoned QB's lots of game experience behind them. I know some of you don't think that Driskel has what it takes to lead us to championships and I won't argue that point because I've fallen into that camp myself, BUT WHAT IF WE USED BOTH OF THEM......

Think about it for a minute, all the pressure would be off both of them to do what they do best...Jeff could easily come in and run the bulk of the read option, Diamond formation and if he took over the Wildcat role from Trey whom I like, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a pass, we would have a legitimate throwing threat from that as well....

I know we are trying to transform into a complete pro style offense but to me I wouldn't mind seeing a little option football maybe 25-30 percent total.

What says the brain trust on this board ???? Would this set us back offensively ??? Would it hamper our offensive recruiting ??? Would it even work???

LSU did it a few years ago and it kind of worked but Muschamp better just pick a QB in fall camp. I would rather have people on message boards doing the could have should have would have with the QB's than to play both.

JD would probably be effective in the wildcat, but also his strong suit is still read option. He can pass the ball unlike most wildcat qb's. However, Murphy maybe even better at the read. At this point I see no reason to substitute for Murphy except for the wildcat, which I hope they quit running anyway.

Exactly. Way too early to say much of anything yet about next year.

A couple of years ago, Louisiana-Monroe used two dual-threat QBs in the backfield. Check it out here: Dual, dual-threat QBs

Yeah I think we need to settle down - Murphy just beat the two worst defenses we will face all year (although we may have a third in Georgia).

That's awesome, I have thought about an offense like this in the past.

Kentucky had the #3 passing defense in the SEC. I know its a down year as far as defense goes but they weren't complete trash. He carved up a fairly decent secondary.

Three weeks in against Western Kentucky and Miami might be a bit premature, and it's not like Murphy passed all over them, either. #59 defense & #107 defense. Let's slow down is all I'm saying here.

Wasn't really making an argument or trying to stir up anything. I just wondered what some of you thought.

Of course we have to see what unfolds over the next few weeks.....right now I feel pretty good about Murphy, then again I was assured JD would have been in Heisman discussions by now in his career:no:

Why does someone feel compelled, in every thread, to downplay Murphy's performance? There were plenty of games last year and early this year where our offense was terrible against terrible teams. However, we beat 2 SEC teams and you say they "are the worst defenses we will face this year" - worse than Toleda, Georgia Southern, FSU to denigrate Murphy's performance? Really??

Most fans get it - there is not enough data yet to judge Murphy. How about being positive based on what we have seen rather than negative based on what you expect to see?

Please, I'm trying to find a reason to be excited about this year, other than we have a great defense an improved offense and better WR's and at least 2 pretty good RB's and at least a little depth on the offensive line and we have a TE who can block and.......and....and...

Well it will be good to have two QBs we can rely on. So far I have liked two things about Murphy in comparison to JD: Murphy makes a quicker decision to pass or scramble, and his acceleration is faster.

One thing is for sure, unless Murphy implodes, we're gonna have a QB controversy next summer. But that can be a good thing.

That seems like a lot to be excited about. We also have a QB that has done some nice things against bad competition. You can still be very excited and encouraged by that I know I am

I like this idea. Maybe i'm missing something, but don't they have similar skillsets, albeit slightly different, but not enough to warrant using both?
