The best chance for Alabama to put together a decent program is to keep Anthony Grant. He is one of the finest young coaches in the game. His integrity is unmatched and his numbers are excellent. 3 straight 20 win seasons (only 2nd time in school history), 3rd most wins in SEC play in last 6 years (only trailing Florida and Kentucky), 3 straight post season appearances (only 2nd time in school history), 3 straight winning seasons in conference play (only 2nd time in school history). Any Alabama fan that thinks they need an upgrade is a fool.

Pearl is awesome, just not honest. What would be great is to see Saban retire next year and have Kiffin take over. Bama would have 2 cheaters at the helm.

Is there a movement to get rid of Grant? Because if there is, then Alabama basketball fans simply do not care about winning. Everything stated above suggests that if they get rid of him, the guy they get afterward should know the standard he needs to meet will be almost impossible. Stunned.

I think Bama fans think they should make the NCAA tourney most years. I think that's a reasonable goal and that Grant can get them there. He might need to change some of what he is doing tho.

Gotta admit, initially I didn't agree with your first sentence, but you made a pretty good argument for him. It does seem like he's had some odd player/roster issues though. I haven't followed them enough to recall the specifics but this comes to mind when I think of his time there.

There is nothing in the long history of Alabama basketball to suggest this is a "reasonable" goal.

Sure, but I don't blame them for wanting that to be the case. They are paying Grant a lot of money aren't they? He is apparently the 20th highest paid bball coach.

Read my original post on the subject. Grant's numbers are better than very good. Alabama is a stronger program today than they have been in a long time.

If AG beats Auburn twice in the regular season his job is secure.

With a third "W" over Auburn in the SEC tournament they may give him a contract extension and raise. ;^)

But it just doesn't seem like he has accelerated the Bama program. Maybe he has . Does not have the look I thought I would see from him.

The Bama fans kinda care about basketball. About like our fans. Great when we are winning, not really concerned when losing or mediocre.

The noise from fans up here in Alabama continues to grow in favor of making a move to get rid of Anthony Grant.

Losing by 20 to Auburn will so that.

Pearl and Saban...that would be like when we had Spurrier and Donovan..just ridiculous.

Well, Pearl is certainly good, as rserina noted, at turning limited talent into victorious teams.

I don't know how many of you recall that far back, but Pearl's first two years at Tenn were 2006 and 2007, the two years the Gators won National Championships. During that time, Tenn won 3 of the 4 games those schools played, and in 2006, Tenn won the SEC east title. In 2007, the Gators finally, finally won a game against him at home.

Bama, as several have noted, is not exactly your optimum sport for a basketball coach, although, in the past, they have fielded some pretty good teams.

Man, that would really be deja vu, if Grant were to end up back at UF coaching beside Donovan and Phelphry, but somehow, seems relatively unlikely.

I'm just not sure which coach you would push out to get Grant back on our staff. The two young guys are doing a great job recruiting.

I would hope Grant could land somewhere good. Bama in basketball's not a good situation. Even had my coworker who's a Georgia Tech grad say he'd want him there if Bama lets him go.

Grant started winning, so now that he's having a down year it's because he is a bad coach somehow. It's the problem with dumb fan bases. The guy that got you there has a down year, generally there is a good reason, and he needs to be fired because despite the fact that you absolutely sucked before him, winning seasons are now somehow an underachievement.
