The last time I felt this way about a new S&C coach was when Urban Meyer brought Mickey Marotti with him. And Savage did intern under Marotti at Ohio State.

No, it isn't easy at all. 3:20 or 3:25 at a qualifying marathon at his age. Very difficult for a guy DM's size. Heck, anything under 4hrs is impressive.

OK, I had to look it up. He didn't qualify, Boston was his first marathon. Which means he took a charity fundraiser entry (as thousands do every year). Finished in 4:28...

You've got to admit, it's looking pretty good at this point. This guy has his heart in it and I think it's a job he's always wanted. I bet we could have gotten him instead of Mac had we offered. Plus all of it just reeks of Meyer, not because Mullen came up under Meyer, but because they rose and developed their philosophies together. He knows what we need to win and he probably also knows about the pitfalls to avoid (I think he's driven like Meyer, but not as much of a tightass). My initial thoughts were, "meh", but at this point I'm downright giddy. If we close well on NSD, as it appears we may, and I'll have no shred of doubt.

Maybe the season will change that, but I see major improvement there too.

I think this will happen and probably on several occasions and I absolutely love it. But Tim's got too much on his plate to be a full time assistant right now. Spring training starts in a couple weeks.

But if he ever chose that route, S&C would be the perfect fit IMO. Isn't the S&C coach the only one who gets to maintain contact with the players all year? If so, and given his familiarity with the offensive system, that could be very interesting indeed.

His attitude has been business-like and he's approached the job like a professional...that much is true and you're right: encouraging to see.

Much will depend on whether the players buy into his style and how well S&C go into the offseason in getting us more mentally and physically tougher.

For us fans, seeing how he closes will be crucial. He's done well thus far, but needs to pick up a few big guys toward the end to get excitement up again...and address some of the holes in the roster.

"Mullen is right there running with us,'' Edwards said. "It's not like he was waiting here for us to get back. Nah, each step of the way he was running with us and making sure we were staying as a team."

This, gentlemen (and ladies), is known as leadership.

    Good research, thanks.

Yeah, so not quite as cool as qualifying, but still pretty cool. For first time marathoners, that 16 to 20 mile mark can be a time that challenges you mentally.
Props to him. I will stick to trails. :)

I guess my point is that I've yet to see anything negative. Nothing that I have to rationalize to myself (Mac and Muschamp). Just one positive after another.

I expect Mullen to get a couple of the names left on the board but late start without deep relationships points towards missing on most. Expecting a few flips from MSU recruits he knows well who will turn out to be good pickups. Maybe a JUCO or 2 that can help us.

Problem was, Mac was too busy hiring his "pals" and giving his "buddies" jobs instead of hiring qualified, professional assistants.

To be fair, Mullen is bringing along his buddies too. And I'm fine with that. I want my HC to be comfortable with his assistants, to have a synergy from the beginning. It's not like Meyer conducted a nationwide search for his staff.

I think it's more like 5 days. Probably need at least 5 months for those.
