Sunday 2.9.2014 The Lakeland Ledger Wire Services. >> New Jewish Center Opens At UF A new Jewish center is opening at the University of Florida, the university with the largest Jewish population - 8,500 undergraduate and graduate students. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned today for the 23,000-square-foot Lubavitch-Chabad Center for Jewish Life and Learning. The center cost $4.8 million to build. www.theledger.com << Now that is impressive! I wish there had been more information in the short article about this. Impressive, first about the new complex, also that Jewish Gators are the largest number of Jewish college students in the Nation. When I was at UF there was just one Jewish student center and it was the Hillel House near the Methodist Church on University Avenue. Last couple of years I noticed there was a new and much larger Hillel House on University Avenue not too far from Emerson Hall, the UF Alumni Center across from the Stadium. I can see why with 8,500 students we would now have two Jewish Student Centers near the UF campus.
