Of course he won't be a real offensive threat down low, but at SC he had a nice touch on his shot and some range out to the 15-16 foot area, as I recall. He can also finish around the rim nicely.

Wouldn't Horford have to sit out a year? If so, then there will be minutes available for him when he's eligible since Harris won't be here after next season.

No. He has already graduated and will transfer under the immediate eligibility to rule to a school with the grad program of his choosing.

Harris shot over 80% from the free throw line in his sophomore year at South Carolina. If I recall, he also had a nice looking mid-range jump shot. He could be a solid offensive threat for us.

And considering it will have been 2 years since anyone has seen him play in a live game, who knows what else he could have developed in the meantime. Hopefully a better attitude ;)

Was it an issue of minutes or style of play?

Both. Michigan plays 3 guards, a wing, and a single post player. Basically one post position with 3 or 4 bodies available next year. The minutes aren't there, and from his own mouth, Horford says he had skills that he developed that he was never able to showcase in games due to the system and playing time. The two are inextricably linked.

Gotcha. I knew I had read that he loved his team, but had been convinced he could not showcase himself there.

To further drive home this point....why are we assuming that in 2 years of practice (well 1.5 with his MIA break) that he hasn't improved his offensive game at all? Like you mention, he had a nice base at SC and averaged close to 7 points. I don't think anyone expects Harris to come in and put up 20 ppg but I think it is realistic to think he can chip in 10 a game after 2 years of practice and refinement. Especially after learning/playing against from Patric.

The rejoinder, of course, is that he spent his transfer year on the shelf with an injury. So we are really only talking about a few months of working on his game or practicing against Young.

And I don't see a world in which he drops ten a game for us. He probably won't get enough minutes to do so with Walker and DFS ahead of him in the rotation. At best, I think he can give us a good 18-22 minutes, which in our system normally translates into something like 6-8 ppg, 4-5 rpg. If he can't do that, even something in that 12-16 minute range would be useful and likely projects to something along the lines of 4-6 ppg, 3-4 rpg.

I still think DFS will get minutes at the 3 to give us a longer lineup. I can see Walker at the 4 with Harris at the 5

We played him at the 3 with Will and Pat some later in the season.

You are right that I forgot about the injury so he hasn't had a ton of practice time. That being said, I don't see where DFS is ahead of him in the rotation considering they don't overlap in position. We only have two players who can play the 5 in Walker and Harris. I suspect Walker will get the bulk of the minutes and agree with you that 20ish minutes is about right for Harris. I think he will surprise you though and put in more than 3 baskets a game. Of course this is all assuming he does what he has to to actually get onto the court.

I originally thought that Horford made little sense, but after listening to this discussion, I guess he does, even if only for 1 year (sheesh, we are getting like Kentucky).

If the Gators get him, hopefully some 2015 bigs in addition to Hayes will decide to commit and become likely NBA players,

What about Ryan Anderson as a transfer Bullis? We need experience in the front court after next year. It has been a very successful strategy to pick up at least one front court transfer (Macklin, DFS,Harris, Murphy) every year.

I bet we would be interested, but sounds like he is Indiana-bound.
