So I need some help....what I really want is the new Nokia 1020...however, I have Tmobile and they don't have it yet.

    Here are my needs -

-Needs to take fantastic pictures, especially in less-than-perfect lighting.
    -Bluetooth
    -Wifi Calling
    -Sturdy
    -Call Clarity

So here are the ones I've narrowed it to:

    Samsung S4
Samsung Note 2 (not sure about the size -too big?)
    Nokia 925 (Windows phone)
    Sony Xperia Z
    HTC One

Any advice would be great. I have a really bad mytouch Q that's getting really bad

    Thanks in advance :)

Either of you know about the issue with seeing the screen outdoors, though? If you have the phone, any problems with sunlight?

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes out in September if you settle on the Note 2. Thinner (may have larger screen in the same size case), higher resolution screen, faster processor, better camera, more RAM, etc. You get the idea.

May be to large for you since it isn't a one handed phone. I know a lady that has one and absolutely loves it though. Best buy and other stores have them on display if you want to hold one.

I think Sony and Nokia put more emphasis on the camera than other brands if that is your most important feature.

I was recommending it based on articles and 2 friends that have the Samsung S4. They both like their phones and researched them before buying.

With that said, my wife has an Ipad 4 and her phone contract with T-mobile is up at the end of this month. The new Iphone 5S will be out in several weeks and I think she's going with that phone.

    4.7" screen vs 5"

3/10 of an inch makes a huge difference.

If you need good visibility outside I think the Nokia is the one you want based on what I've read.

I have a Droid DNA that I got specifically for ability to view outdoors in bright sunlight, and with high resolution screen so I can pop big clear fonts that are easy on my eyes.

From perspective of visibility in sunlight and overall screen display, the DNA was clearly superior to the S3 and Note 2 I compared against when I got it. Those phones were not usable in sunlight for me - I have very light sensitive eyes though. I haven't seen the S4 for comparison.

Sounds like you're looking AT&T so the DNA isn't an option for you I don't think. The HTC One might be worth a look... same company that makes the DNA - screen might be good in sunlight as well.

    Ice....could I offer a contrarian position?
I know everyone is Galaxy 4 crazy right now, but you should consider this:
A friend of mine just bought the iPhone5 at Sams Club for $128.00 (Verizon or Sprint)....no contracts, just a deal.
According to my business guru's, Androids get content-stealing viruses, where the iPhone's are mostly immune.
The amount of free apps are equal or greater to what Android phones have available.

I'd considered Iphone. My problem with the Iphone has been the reviews regarding the camera's performance versus the other phones. It just wasn't on par especially in low light situations.

The reason the camera is so important is that my parents basically "survive" on pictures of the grandkids, and it's so much easier to pull out my phone and snap something and text/load to photobucket than bring my bigger DSLR out, take the pics, then go home, plug it in, upload to my computer, etc.

Here's a comparison just released for more consideration.
The iPhone5 is lighter, easier to carry, more business-like
...but whatever works best for you as a happy grandma.
I don't own any Apple stock so I have NO skin in the game.
You can't go too wrong either way.

Queenie, you might want to hold off and check out the new Iphone 5S due out shortly. Faster processor and better quality camera so the reports say.

    iPHONE 5S CAMERA

"The compact camera market has been suffering due to the quality of smartphone cameras. It's clear that the camera is something that people really care about, wanting to take high-quality photos without having to carry two devices.

While the iPhone has been known for the quality of its integrated cameras, in recent months the competition has overtaken Apple. Competitor's phones, such as the Nokia Lumia 920, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z, have all been sold on the quality of their cameras.

It shouldn't be a big surprise, then, that the iPhone 5S is now being touted as having a higher-resolution camera. Viatnamese site Tinhte, which has managed to get Apple hardware early, has said that the iPhone 5S will have a 12-megapixel sensor.

While the jump to a 12-megapixel sensor would improve the resolution of photos, giving your larger photos, there is always the worry that it will increase noise. One of the problems with fitting high-resolution, but physically small, sensors is that there's less light per pixel. This can have a knock-on effect, particularly when shooting in low light.

Leaked shots have also hinted that the camera will have a dual-LED flash. This should make it easier to take shots in darker rooms, and create a brighter flash.

What is clear is that Apple needs to improve the quality of its camera if it's to compete and more resolution makes sense as a starting point."

I have had great luck with Samsungs. Very durable phones. I am still using a Galaxy 2 that is 2 yrs old and has seen some serious miles. I have heard nothing but great things about the S4 but I don't know about a phone that big. I would do an iPhone except it has an internal battery. What has kept me in tue Samsung os the fact that I can swap out batteries when I need to. And I need to do it at least once a day.
