Demo is out today on the PSN and XBLive.

NCAA Football 14 Demo Now Available

I'll likely continue to be one of the sheep that buys the only slightly upgraded franchise again, like I have since the it came out on PS2.

I haven't tried the demo yet. I might give it a shot tomorrow, or tonight if I finish my paper in a timely manner.

I'm now on the every other year plan. It's worked out well for me.

I enjoyed the first madden game last year and loved the game physics, since they changed recruiting and that I will get this one.

I hope they make it a little easier to pass this year. Last years game is terrible in passing. Unless the WR is open by 10 yards he isn't getting the ball because a 5'10 Corner can jump 16' in the air to bat it down

Okay, so I went against my best interest, and gave the demo a shot.

Much improved gameplay. It's the same engine as Madden had last year, but it seems to be a lot better (at least from Madden13 demo). The game feels more natural and fluid. Not as herky jerky. Blocking is improved a lot. Jukes seem to be too effective (I juked out about 4 or 5 people with one juke) but fun and more natural, I'm sure that the over effectiveness can be tweaked.

So far, the game seems to play very smoothly and relatively bug free. I'll have to play it some more to get more of a feel, but gameplay wise, I think it's a huge step forward.

I'm looking forward to the game and even have something in mind to incorporate it to the site. Stay tuned.

Also, is there any interest in starting an online dynasty with GC members?

I'd be down, if the Online dynasty mode is stable. NCAA13 OD mode was pretty shaky.

I didn't have any problems with it. However, I didn't try playing it until after an update came out.

I could be interested in a dynasty with GC people...

fyi they're not planning a zero day patch, so I'd expect the first one a week or 2 after launch

I would want to wait until there's a solid roster with names and all the recruits added in we could download.

idk there were tons of bugs and oversights. Sometimes the dynasty wouldn't advance. Sometimes it wouldn't let PvP games start. It was a mess in my dynasty.

    Here was the biggest glitch I had with online dynasty last year;

We had two people in the same division where it got to the point where they simply couldn't play. They were good sports about it though and stilled played through the the rest of the dynasty and just took turns each season playing the CPU version of the others team. But eventually we couldn't even advance. I had the idea to just have everyone leave the dynasty, delete their files, then I would re-invite them, then I would leave myself, do the same thing, and then one of them would re-invite me. It actually worked, we were able to advance, and those two were able to play. I assume one of them maybe had a corrupted file, or something, I don't really know, but man was it frustrating. It really stalled our dynasty.

Yea, there was a glitch in the dynasty db about rosters. Suffice it to say it was annoying, and they didn't auto delete all dynasties because the repro-rate was comparatively low.

The problem there was some roster combination that choked you and the person that caused the collision but not everyone else until your team played them. I think if you just deleted all the custom rosters and let it use the versions from the server it solved/avoided the issue.

I may play the gators in some offline dynasty for a bit and see if there's any dust that needs to settle.

I don't particularly like the fact that it holds your hand on option plays, and tell you who your read is. I mean, it's not hard to figure out without it, but it still feels like your hands are being held.

This is a gimmick, like the Heisman Challenge, or Mascot Challenge. I'll definite not give this a try, just like I never did the heisman challenge or mascot challenge.

Other than that, I have high expectations, and this might be the last game I buy on PS3.

It is. Some people love that mode though. Fifa made 200 million from their ultimate team last year. So we put the mode in the other games, because, well, people buy it.

    I'm fully aware.

It's all about reaching a new audience. And many times, you have to be gimmicky to draw them in.

As long as gameplay itself isn't hurt (and ideally is improved), I don't really care. It just sometimes feels like the game itself suffers because there was too much of an emphasis on something that was gimmicky, and not the meat of the game, dynasty mode, and the gameplay itself.

With that said, this looks to be the most promising NCAA Football game on the current gen consoles based on the demo gameplay. I'm nervous about the changes to dynasty mode, and the RPG style coaching skill, but I'll approach it with an open mind. I'm actually pretty psyched about the game though.

    Just finished the demo ...

In my many years with this franchise this is the first time I've ever played the demo ( / first impression after buying) that I've had a sense of a palpable, undeniable regression. And again, the last one I bought was NCAA 12. The game feels almost identical but somehow gameplay and graphics are worse. It almost feels like they wanted it to look terrible so people would be compelled to upgrade to XboxOne or PS4.

Everything had a severe loss of graphical dimension. It felt like a PS2 game, with very little depth. Apparently they added:

    A. Rampant butt fumbles. If your QB is around another player for more than a second, they fall down, I guess?

    B. The read indicator. I'm not sure what this offers you.

    C. The shovel, which is pretty ineffectual.

The playbooks look identical to 2012, the commentary is identical. How do they get away with this, year after year? I thought I was on the every-two-years plan, but maybe I'm on the buy-one-and-call-it-a-franchise plan now.

    Really, really bad impression overall.
