can a national seed not host a regional? Pat Dooley seems to think it could happen. He says we are a lock for a national seed yet we might get sent packing as a one seed in a regional not in Gainesville. His reasoning is they wouldn't want 3 regionals in the same state. scUM and swac would get regionals.

Possible but highly unlikely as long as the home field of the national seed meets NCAA requirements. It happens sometimes in softball and may have happened in baseball with Dallas Baptist a few years back.

I don't think the committee cares about 3 supers in one state. Plus there is no assurance that Miami and f$u will get national seeds. I think we are the only lock and they take one of those two--but not both.

Very very unlikely.....but FSU or UM would be the victim in that scenario because they are both ACC schools. UF will be home

That's just a dumb thing for him to write.

    Nothing to see here.

Agreed. This is asinine comment by Dooley, no other way to say it.

Zero chance UF doesn't host. UF will always submit a bid. It is possible not to host but you have to not submit a bid (not overly uncommon as you have to pay to host and some schools will lose money by hosting) or possibly be so unattractive the NCAA wouldn't pick you (never heard of it happening).

Trying to give Dooley the benefit of the doubt, it's possible this:

was just sloppy writing, and he combined two related but distinct thoughts into one paragraph. In other words, there's a chance he meant:

    1. Florida will probably get a national seed,
    2. But it's possible they won't and will get sent elsewhere as a #1 seed in someone else's regional

Option 2 is far from unheard of; I believe that was our situation in 2004 (#1 seed in Oklahoma City or Stillwater). So it's possible Dooley didn't really mean that Florida could get a top eight national seed and still not host a regional. That would be utterly unprecedented, so far as I know.

But if that's what he meant he could have phrased it far more gracefully.

No national seed has ever gone on the road. Sometimes the remaining #1's do, but not national seeds. Plus Florida, FSU, and Miami have all hosted in the same year twice before, including just 2 years ago.

    Fair enough.

There seems to be one #1 almost every other year that goes on the road at least in my recollection. I feel like UConn was a #2 seed that hosted one year. I think the NCAA just wanted to have a northern regional. In my head the SWAC was the #1 in that bracket.

^Was trying to find that year but I seem unable. Might have just made that UConn story up.

Don't worry about it, gt. It's possible you didn't make it up. You might just be psychotic.

Happened in 2010. FSU was sent to Connecticut as #1 seed.

all 3 played each other in non conference 3 game series. if only 2 get a regional, UF should get one of them imo. they swept swac in home and home and one neutral site.

scUM took 2/3 in coral gables against UF and swac took 2/3 in tally against scUM.

There's plenty to pile on Pat about, but he's not saying anything wild and crazy here. He's merely speculating on the outside chance that we would be the odd man out in the case of the committee only granting two regionals to the state of FLORIDA, but he follows it up by saying that he doubts it:

He's not saying that we would be a national seed AND travel; he's trying to imagine a scenario where we wouldn't host, and then he's basically saying that he doesn't see it happening.

Short of the stadium collapsing, we'll be hosting and slotted to host for a second weekend.

    Go GATORS!

UF won one of the toughest conferences in thw country and might not host a regional? That would be a crime imo.
