There's the potential that the police can detain you while determining your identity if they stop you and you are unable to produce identification. (There's obviously some restrictions to when and how they can go about doing so, but lack of ID is a good way to turn what would normally be a citation into sitting in the back of a cop car while they try to confirm who you are or getting a ride to the station for them to figure it out. I'd assume that's what the NAACP is worried about happening during their protest.)

Would a voter ID card count?

i'd say ben answered that question. see the next page. maybe more detail was needed in order for you not to question the answer. i probably just didn't explain my answer well enough.
    ;)
you have heard of people getting arrested at protests, right?

I imagine it's also in case someone gets sick. The organizers don't want to be having to figure out who you are

In case they ignored the requirements to eat a balanced meal, stay hydrated, and wear comfortable shoes. :D

    And here's how falsehoods spread:

    Daily Caller:
NAACP requires marchers protesting North Carolina voter ID law TO SHOW PHOTO ID

Rightwingnews.com NAACP requires photo ID to join in march against photo ID laws

    Examiner.com:
Media largely silent as NAACP-sponsored anti-voter ID march requires photo ID

    Gopdailydose.com:
NAACP requires marchers protesting North Carolina voter ID law TO SHOW PHOTO ID

    and there's a bunch more ...

So next time I'm at a rally and about to be arrested, just flash an ID and the police recede? Got it! Thanks for the tip.

Next time you're at a rally and are potentially going to be cited for being disruptive, refuse to produce identification and enjoy the ride to the police station instead of getting a notice to appear like you otherwise would have. Enjoy the tip!

And Liberal sites do the exact same thing. Some of the people on this board make no attempt whatsoever at being objective individuals.

When someone prints a flyer with a bunch of do's and dont's on it, there is usually a reason for it.

"He guys, lets go protest the new voter ID law, here's a list of do's and dont's. Make sure you bring your ID".

If you don't see the irony in this, you are a blind partisan HACK.

If any of these NAACP marchers need VA benefits, they will also need a picture ID, military ID or retired military ID.

Of course if the libs and the NAACP has their way, these same marchers and supporters will not need a picture ID to vote, get SNAP benefits, housing assistance, free phone, welfare or get healthcare.

Lists of that sort have been used by protest organizers since at least the Viet Nam era, if not earlier. It's nothing more than suggestions to help marchers minimize problems during the event.

"Bring ID" relates to the possibility of arrest or injury. "Watch for people joining from the sidelines" relates to possible plants/agents provocateurs. And on and on.

All standard protest stuff. Really nothing to see here.

So apparently these people want to eliminate picture ID's only when voting? How freaking selective can one get with respect to proving ones true identity...

Then what are you guessing the march is actually about?

Has to be more than identification in the event of an arrest. Please try to make a sensible explanation.
