I'm gonna go ahead and guess the North Koreans discovered he was giving information to the West, or had folks in his inner circle who were doing it.

You'd probably be hard pressed to find many men in NK's leadership that don't regularly engage in all the things this guy was publicly accused of.

That's nothing. In DC they simply refer to them as politicians.

He was the #2 guy right? I think Kim is just consolidating power and knocking off a rival.

Sounds about right. Typical despotic rule. Didn't Sadaam have one of his sons kill his brother-in-law?

Possibly. At least that's what the Western media outlets are saying. But you don't have to execute someone to consolidate power. I'm just speculating, but the language used by the NK media seems pretty harsh...almost as if they were betrayed.

Oh, that's just to discredit the guy executed, make it seem "legit." He can't just "disappear"mob style - it's not unlike the Stalinist show trials in the 1930s. Those guys didn't really do anything "treasonous," other than potentially threaten Stalin's hold on power.

They have to make room in the political hierarchy for Dennis Rodman. He's being brought in as an elder statesman and a father figure to the young Kim. Rodman is expected to bring dignity and class to the Kim administration.

I don't know the particulars here but usually one of the first signs of a shaky regime is paranoia. Family members getting the first ax since they are usually the closest. It should be interesting to see where this leads. And if the regime finally topples, the North Korean people are going to need a LOT of help to getting to a semblance of normalcy.
