I have a cousin who is a Catholic, and by the reasoning of some in this thread that makes me a Catholic. Thank God for that, because it sure beats having to believe in all that stuff and go to Church. When I die and am standing at the gate, I'll just flash my "Family Pass" and get right in.

Question - if he is negotiating with the Taliban, doesn't that mean he's negotiating with Terrorists? Does that mean the NSA has been monitoring him, and if so, is he going to be charged with terrorism?

A US president negotiating with the Taliban? There seems to be a precedent.

Of course that's when they were called "freedom fighters".

Considering I'm probably the only Republican who absolutely hated Ronald Reagan and have the physical urge to spit every time someone says his name, I have no problem with criticizing this photo. Personal reasons, though.

Question, though. Considering how young I was at that time, can you or someone clarify if the Taliban was considered a "terrorist" group at the time this was taken? That's just for curiosity's sake.

To VA's attempt to justify anything....of course they are the same as they were then huh---30 some odd years ago? There has indeed been a precedent set now....as in much more apt to be intent on killing us than they ever were then. And they have demonstrated it. Back then we had a different relationship with Iran as well...with damn near every country/sect/group on the planet. Things change--wake up and see the real world for once.

That's the funny thing about libs---they fail to recognize the inherent changes which have taken place in 'real world' situations. It is always the lib kumbayah crowd who thinks we will win them over with the appeasement and apologies.

But that is ok in the minds of the lefties....so instead of 'But Bush', you guys are shifting to "But Ronnie". Perhaps one day the libs will wake up to see times are entirely different than 40, 30, even 20 years ago. We are dealing with an entirely different type of people now. And trying the lame rationale of what happened in the way back time machine doesn't hold water.

This would be akin to blaming any US President who dealt with Cuba before Fidel turned communist. You can only go so far in the blame pool to make a point.

Exactly. To use a photo of Reagan talking with whatever group of ragheads that is in there---doesn't mean squat in comparison to a potential sit-down with the friggin Taliban today and now.

If VA...or any other lib for that matter....thinks that simply because Reagan did it back in the 80s, it is the same situation today and that rationale for doing so is justified---just how far gone and out in left field are they?? It is night and day in comparison, but of course--the mantra and defend and spin cry for the left...."But (insert name here) did it."

It is all they have left to use. They certainly can't use Hussein's record on foreign policy or for that matter--his record on anything. He really has been that pathetic of a POTUS.

And the Dems used to be for Americans, but now seem to favor Mexicans instead. So what's your point?

Mine is that politicians' principles seem to change a lot depending on how many votes that will get them. Reagan was fighting the Russians through the Taliban, before the Taliban started terrorizing Americans. Obama is negotiating with them knowing they still terrorize innocent men, women and children all over the world including Americans.

Obama is more like Putin and Satan then that great man....the 40th POTUS.

They've been absent per their own rules for months.

The exception being talking about the rule breaking. That they enforce.

    That lawyer can screw himself.

By the way, how can you have meaningful direct negotiations with an unorganized group of thugs like Al Qaeda? If whoever is the leader negotiates something some cells don't agree with they'll just break off into off shoots of the original.
