Glad I saw Paul in '02. He is losing vocal range. At least tonight he was.
RHCP is badass!
Great sound and visuals from the stage.
I've seen RHCP a bunch of times. The new guy on guitar is good and I certainly don't envy him replacing John Fruciante but I miss Fruciante. The last couple of times I have seen them, Anthony feels a bit disengaged. As if he is there because Flea and Chad want to be there. Just feels different than the old days. Of course, they are in their early fifties so that may have something to do with it, too.
Found this thanks to Geek Week. She does great stuff.
Another good cover
I just enjoyed them a lot more in small, crap-hole venues where the band and the crowd were out of control. Last few times I saw them was at Lolla or some other huge venue and everyone was way too behaved. Don't care much for their more recent music, but I don't see any other way they could have evolved. They're all filthy rich now and deserve it. I'd still love to party with them. Flea is one of the most distinctive rock and roll icons of all time. Will never forget the time he sang Anarchy in the UK A cappella and about two octaves higher than the original.
I skipped them at Lolla 2 years ago for a very lackluster Avicii set. That day was a mess.
Have only seen RHCP two times but only as far back as 06. So I guess I cant lament them being different now that they are hugely rich rock stars. I have only seen them as huge stars. FWIW I loved both shows.
I am with you Strange. Seeing the Red Hots in the 80's and early 90's was the best though the arena tours were still pretty good until about 10yrs ago or so. I also agree that they had to evolve and I am glad they did but, for me, it just dried up after By The Way. I saw them last tour and went to see Flea, specifically. Scalped a ticket 4 rows from the stage on his side. He rocked as usual.
Leaf, I skipped that set at Lolla, also. Muddy as hell and too many people for me at that point. I had tix to an aftershow and figured it might be better to just hit that early instead.
Mystery Train - Elvis
Scotty Moore picking the guitar always does my heart good.
